So there are times that I will go out and start my bike and the starter will turn but will not turnover the motor. I went and pulled the plugs out of the case cover and the gears will turn down at the starter clutch but won't kick over. I took a wrench and turned the bolt to the starter clutch just a little and hit the button and bike turns over. I'm not sure what is wrong could use any advice please help

Starter clutches go out and on those years the end of the starter gear can round off.

The starter dose not seem to be the problem. It turns and the gears down to the clutch do also but it's like the clutch won't grab to turn the bike over.

Do you want to deal with the bad design of the
'99-'02 starter? What about down the road when
you explode the engine case because of a fragged
starter? Do a little research :poke:

I did some research and looked at the starter and found out that the guy I had bought the bike from did change everything over to the 03 starter and starter clutch assembly. So I will do the clutch I guess and see if that dose the trick unless I am going in the wrong direction.
