What does this do? I was told to put a smaller (1 less tooth) sprocket on the bike for more performance. I don't mean to be an idiot but which sprocket do you change, front or rear? Also what are the advantages or disadvantages to doing this, I would guess quicker takeoff, but less top end. If that is true how much difference? Is there a complete idiots guide to bike mods, or should I just keep asking? Thanks

What you need to figure out is what do you want to have the bike do. Best all around for a stock Busa is stock gearing 17/40 drop to 16/40 and you will get quicker of the line and take your top end to about 174mpg. go the other way 18/40 only if you increase yur hp to about 195hp and up.

I heard nothing but good about vortex sprockets. Some of my friends use them for drag racing on there busas. They abuse the crap out of them and they keep going. Some of the others tear up quick. You can get a vortex for around $50. I think I may do this soon.

AFAM makes some nice molly fronts and some nickel plated for the rear. You will find for a stock Busa they are overkill but very good.

I think most guys would agree the preferred sprocket to change is the rear? Changing the front to a smaller sprocket takes the chain in a smaller circumference thus applying a bit more wear than stock.

I went up three teeth on the rear which gives you slightly more gearing then one up on the front. Going up three on the rear will change your speedo by about 7 or 8 percent. It will definately give you more thrust on the lower end. Just like adding horse power. Makes you go faster, quiker.

Some will say you loose speed on the top end but you may very well keep the high end as well? The stock busa will not redling in sixth gear with stock gearing. If you lower the gearing a little you may develope more rpm in sixth gear giving you a good top end as well? A 43 tooth sprocket on the rear will shorten your wheelbase by about three eighths of an inch!

... what he said ...

I went down one in the front only to see what I thought.. I don't know that I'll mess with the rear... first off.. the damn thing costs like $100 for a frikken sprocket...

the one tooth down in the front makes it feel like you picked up 30 horsepower somewhere...

Is this a proven fact or an assumption? If it is indeed true you will not lose top-end speed, I'm definantly gonna invest in a bigger rear sprocket.

It's an assumption. When you change the gearing, you are robbing Peter to pay Paul, so to speak. You will reach your maximum speed more quickly, however that speed will be lower. A stock busa will not tach out 6th gear because of the speed limiter, a 99/00 will bounce off the limiter in 6th with 17/40 gearing. The question you gotta ask is "Do I really want the potential to go 190+, or would I enjoy quicker acceleration, with a lower top speed?" To me that's a no brainer, I'll take a (very) quick ride to 175 over a top speed I'm not gonna see very often anyway. Besides, it don't take long to put the gearing back to stock when I do get the top speed itch...........

17/45 and i love it!!!!!
got a pic of that 45T on there?

thinking of the same...but with an 18T UP-Front

additionally....anyone happen to know from memory, what the largest size rear sprocket you can run with one of those "hayabua" monogramed crome chain gaurds is? I have a feeling it's going to hinder my plans!

Sorry for the questions...I am just never home to see my baby...so I rely on you guys....lol

front sprockets $16
Rear Steel sprockets $35
The $16 is this for the vortex sprocket and do you sell rear sproket for pm wheels.
fronts would be JT or sprocket specialist. yes, we carry alum sprockets. what size and color are you interested in? what brand would you like?
I am looking for this exact one. This is the performance machine hooligan wheels 40T sprocket
