If you plee 'not guilty' the court will set a time for your appearance. They will summon the LEA that wrote the ticket. You have about a 90% chance the LEA will show up to fight it.
Last time I got a ticket, I was doing 80MPH in a 65. I got a ticket for over $300. I would have lost a whole days wages to show up in court. I called the court clerk to see what my options were. She said if I pled 'no contest' she could reduce the ticket by half, and it wouldn't count against my.
