Sometimes: ride fast, ride alone

When you / I take off it gets to 140 ish so far, rather quick, but at what mph does it start to climb at a slower rate? 150....160...170...stock bike.

RYC1966, that's a hard one to answer, given my mods (read the lower description on my posts) especially the 43 tooth rear sprocket, my bike doesn't feel like it's rate of acceleration slows at all...having said that, we all know it does slow...due to pushing the atmosphere. To me, unless you get out on a moonscape like I was, that type of velocity past 150 just isn't used! If I had to answer you, re: a stock Busa...I think I noticed it's accel rate dropped off the most just after the shift into 6th gear, the same thing I felt on the Dyno Drags roller top speed run I recently did BTW. Raydog (ps I'm sure NOS or turbo would reduce that terrible lugging feeling of 6th gear @ 185mph!)

I think about 80 miles...but, on a Sunday some are closed....but, in a little town I found a closed one that still took credit cards 24/7. Raydog

Oh yeah, the other thing (and I thought about this yesterday too), is that as I got farther north, ranches and some farms appeared so I'd have no problem sniveling to a rancher for a gallon or two for 10 bucks!

Thank you for the answer...looks like one of those times that is hard to forget, and when you try to explain it, some people just don't get it...like jumping out of an air plane.

Really good pics bro. That is the kind of ride that can shape a person. I dont want to get too deep, but you can clear your head and make sense of life out there. Man and machine, one purpose, driven..........awesome.

Looks like a great ride. $3.09 for gas in such a deserted place, wow!

I know, I expected $4.50 a gallon but it just shows you the honest, pure and simple values of people that would choose to live out there. I saw so many dirt trailheads off the highway, when I have some time, I'm going to ride my KLR up to one of those hilltops at night...I can't imagine how many stars and the coyote sounds...what a place to camp!

Good question...it's a $275 Beltronics and I bought a Y fitting so the Zumo (xm radio) dovetails with the detector then to my earbuds...it worked awesome! Coming back on Hwy 395 (Cali) I ran into 3 CHP cars and got good early warning each time....I learned the second you get the alert-jam on that front brake! I'm feeling all guilty(80 in a 55) and in all 3 cases the Chippie never even looked at me! I'm worried that this will make me feel falsely invincible, I guess that worry is what will keep me rolling at reasonable speeds in the future. Raydog

so how far do you think you can go with the rearsets vs the buells?

I just bought a set of harris rearsets and I have buells. I am good for about 200m on factory pegs, 500+ on the buells.

Well your #'s are close to mine, maybe with Ibprophin we could both go farther....the rearsets yesterday, after 400 miles, were painful! I'm 6" 230 and I pried my body off the bike in my garage! It did go away after a nice Jacuzzi however. It's not how far legs are back, it's how far UP, resulting in a few degrees of prolonged posturing with heels closer to butt. I'm still new with it and, like I said before, high performance riding (track or twisties) require rearsets in my view. If they were just to look cool, I'd take em off, it's about cornering clearance and knee down stuff. Again, for motel type tours with gear and shaving kits, the Buells are going back on.   Good job Doyle, wish I was there.

Is that Hwy 50 ? or what roads ? Really nice!

The radar does good except for the "instant on"  which could really happen when your out there on a deserted stretch. On 395 there are about 10,000 CHP or at least it seems like it. You pick up their radar as they are locked on other speeders. But if your the only one around for miles even my new  $450 GPS Escort 9500i wont save me.
