Bogus says "Do I mind paying school taxes? no.. I mind the job that the public education system is doing...shame the parents with the students do not help.. (they are the real issue)"

Our school district is one of the top performers, one of the leaders in the state in all the test kids have to take now.....but the PTA at my kids elementary school almost got disbanded because of lack of parent participation. My wife works fulltime and she is also the room mother in both of my kids classes and the secretary of the PTA. They had a meeting the other night...there were 2 parents there....we have around 400 kids in the school k-4.

You are right on the money !!!!!!! Parent use the schools as a day care and don't do anything with the kids after school . They have to get involved !! If you don't your kid will not make it !

As long as it is not an increase taxes.

There is plenty of tax money out there for schools.

so what do you think a solution should be, mandatory parent participation?

I think you understand my frustration and I know that if parents cared more, many educators would too.. I applaud those who find it important enough to be the best at it...

We attended all school activities... btw.. I do have opinions about the "PTA" as well, where we are , politics and bureaucracy screwed the pooch... The "queen" bees took the PTA as a position of status or authority and basically killed it

I find it irritating that we have to support the poor, the uneducated, the unwashed masses, the prisoner, the meth addict....

So while I don't like paying for someone else's little mouthbreather to go to a public school, the alternative is much less appealing. We have so many uneducated useless people in this country it would be a shame to help create more. So I pay my school taxes with the small hope that someday some of these little bastids might actually do something spectacular.

I don't have kids so I shouldn't have to pay school tax. And if I did have kids, the education system is so pathetic (not the teachers, the crap they think kids should learn), I would home school my kids before i would send them to the public schools here.

Hopefully, as my kids progress through the district we do not run into the "Queen Bee" syndrome you speak of...but I can see that as a great possibility in our district with some of the $$$$ power some think they have.

....oh and I think mandatory parent participation is a great idea.

edit: even if on a rotational basis.

Nope. Won't happen.

It's about lowering SAT scores so as to "pass them" not "teach them".

HAs your house ever caught fire ? No ?? Then you shouldn't have to pay taxes for that ! How about police ?? its called keeping your country standards up to parr with the others . Yu pay taxes to make the country better . the problem is governmeent uses it for stupid crap  like themselves fling around and not doing thier jobs . Thinka bout this all the senators that are running fo rpresident are not doing thier jobs that they are being paid for right now . What do you think your boss would say if you said " I want my same pay but i'm going to go look for a better job instead of coming into work for the next year or so! "
Yes, that is what I pay taxes for. These are called services, and i use these services, I get some benefit from them. But school taxes I will never get anything back from it. yea, yea, yea, some one some where will learn and save us all from something, B.S.

I just wish that all the money I put into school taxes resulted in something more than some dopey kid with his pants hanging around his ankles complaining because he cant get a job...   He also can not read, do basic math and is busier trying to figure out how to defeat "metal detectors" at the school entrance..

This same kid will later be selling drugs or stealing from others to survive.

From there I will have to pay the taxes to keep the prison open for the same stupid kid too dumb to figure out that his best way out was an education.

Instead he will be screaming "discrimination" and trying to make out on the back of the taxpayer..

How about a poll for post natal abortion ??

Do I mind paying school taxes?  no.. I mind the job that the public education system is doing...shame the parents with the students do not help.. (they are the real issue)
And another..

Period paragraph.

This is one of those comments that have the dendency to stretch threads out forever. You can't expect teacher to RAISE and TEACH our youth.

Parents have the greater role in all of this. If the parents don't make their kids do homework, study, OR PULL THEIR PANTS UP.ect......

John, I was and continue to follow the tax issues here in Phoenix area. They didn't get all of what they wanted. Bust some schools and possibly some districts, are being/were consolidated. True, some of the proceeds of increased tax and school closures/consolidations will be used for the pay increases for teachers. Personally, I believe that paying teachers a good salary is a down payment for the future of our children. Although both my sons are grown, I still feel the responsibility to support my community through the payment of taxes. No get me wrong, I don't what to pay high taxes anymore than anyone else.

As an aside, there are countries where students have to earn their way into a good highschool, and pay tuition just as if they were going to college. Anyhow, just my opnion.
