I've been looking for a new helmet and came across the new rf1000. Whats up with the vent in the back? The one I saw at the shop looked cheap and didn't even match with the color. grey plastic vent on a blue helmet.
Do any of you own a solid color rf1000?
Is the vent color matched?
Or did I see a factory defect?

Haven't seen one yet, but from experiance Shoei does top notch work. The RF 800 and 900 I have have at home are both excellent in terms of comfort and noise, at least that's what the wife said about the RF900.

Heck just skip Shoei altogether, and buy yourself an Arai, lighter, smaller, better IMHO.

My Arai is noisy as hell and it's a PITA to change the shield. It is comfy though. I would buy a RF 900 if you don't like the 1000.

Arai's do tend to be noisier than Shoei I'll give you that, but if shield changes are a pain maybe you should come on down and I'll show you how to do it.

My RF 900 is trickier than my Aria, seriously. My only real complaint with Shoei, is the shell size. I have to wear a large Shoei while I wear a Medium Arai QuantumF. It always bugged me running around looking like a Bobble head with this massive Shoei on, the Arai is alot smaller physically and in terms of weight over all and fits perfect... but I still dig Shoei, just wish they would work on fitting my head shape better. Maybe the RF1000 will be the one... That is assuming of course that Shoei's quality has not indeed suffered...

Ear Plugs are the key though with any helmet on a long ride. All helmets at Interstate speeds generate enough Db's to gradually erode you hearing. Foamies seem to be a bit too much, but the little Rubbery plugs seem to be a good compromise.

you want to talk about a bobble head, how do you think i feel. I have to wear a xxl large in a shoei and I love my arai but its just a xl and its kinda small, I need to find smaller check pads. I love my arai but it is noisy. My shoei is a much quiter lid.

And all the 1000`s have a grey vent I belive

I've got a Shoei X-SPII and love it so much I bought my wife one for Christmas. The helmet is light as well as quiet. Its as light as any Arai I tried on and a lot quiter than any Arai I've worn. Not knocking Arai, but I think you're be pleased with the overall performance of a Shoei.

I have the RF1000 but it isn't a solid colored one.  The vent isn't grey, but instead is a clear smoked plastic.  I like the way it looks as a solid colored vent wouldn't match at all.  The helmet is quite noisey btw.

Shoei's are ballon hats. Arai is king!

Seriously Arai is second to none in quality and their sehlls are considerably smaller than comparable Shoei sizes. The reasons for this seemto be a mystery to all but it is true. Shoei make a quality lid too. Just get what fits best on your head and don't be cheap.

You know what they say if you got a ten dollar head then get a ten dollar helmet! But really though both of those lids are great with minor drawbacks (wind noise, vent color or place ment, ect.) just got to find one that suits you best, any one of these is better than none when needed most!

arai secound to none have two and looking to buy a third.if any one has a haydon replica in black size xl would be interested......Dr.

I almost got the RF-1000 but picked up a Shoei Daijiro Memorial helmet instead. Brand new for $450 even. Freakin awesome helmet. Got it from Xtreme Helmets. The website is XtremeHelmets.US. Couldn't believe the price. Looked around alot and couldn't find it for less than $550.

Really any vented helmet is gonna be noisy. thats why I keep earlplugs under the seat for long rides.
