There were 3 friends on a trip.
They stop at a motel for the night.
The man behind the counter charged them $30. for the night.
Each man put $10. on the counter.
One of the men went back to get another pillow, and the man behind the counter told the man the $30. was too much for one night, so he gave him back $5.
While walking back to the room he thinks, how am I going to split $5. between them, so he puts $2. in his pocket.
When he gets to the room, he gives each of the other 2 men a $1 and holds $1 in his hand.
Now that makes each man paid $9. for the room.
9X3 is 27 and the $2 in the his pocket makes 29.
Where did the $1. go from the original $30 that the 3 men paid?

Wait is this a lesson on government economics? Sounds like a shell game to me. I also makes me wonder how they split the gas bill.

Also the one dollar is in his hand.

The 2 dollars should be subtracted from the $27 not added. The man behind the counter said they overpaid by $5 making the cost of the room $25 not $27. There is no missing dollar.
