The only thing it says is that each chipped in $10 to cover them meal. You are assuming that they each bought a meal of the same price... they didnt. Second assumption was by the waiter, thinking that they would all want an equal amount of change back. Each man either paid too much or not enought to cover his actual costs. All of the money is accounted for.

my wife and her girl friends figure out the bill this way--with calculators- right down to the penny. the business guys are too drunk and just throw in the money
