Threads like this make me smile

Folks just have no idea how much fun there is to be had at the track until they finally do it. After the nerves settle down and you have a couple of sessions under your belt, there is usually a silly grin under the helmet that lasts the rest of the day!

Congrats on your first track day. And by the way, you look pretty damn good for a first timer

Thanks Tuf, coming from you that means a bunch. Signed up for a Novice Day at Jennings in March. 18 riders, 3 instructors, private track day. This time the wife is going also. Gonna learn a lot that day.

You've got the right idea! Buddy up with an instructor and gather all the imput you can. Ask lots of questions. Your best avenue at this point is instruction to prevent the bad habits you will certainly employ without a little outside help. Pay close attention to what the instructor tells you and then work diligently on putting his instructions into action.

The most important thing to remember is, you cannot learn much if you are riding as fast as you can. Slow down a couple of notches and work on things your instructor points out. There is a lot of truth in the old saying "You have to go slow to go fast"! You'll find your fastest lap times will come when you don't think you are going that fast.

Go have fun, take lots of pictures, include a few of the wife as well and share your experience with us. Your posts will inspire others to get involved in track days as well! :beerchug:

My toughest challenge right now is trying to ignore all the street riding skills at the track. I learned quickly that street riding skills don't translate to the track, but track skills do translate to the street. First couple of laps were very humbling.

The Novice day has some great instructors in it. A couple of whom I have already met, so rapport is there. I definitely have a lot of questions already, but they are tough to translate without them seeing first hand where my body is on/off the bike.

I did run my quickest laps last weekend, when I concentrated on smooth inputs, rather than go fast and stack it up in the corners. I hope to learn the bikes potential, but I have a long way before that happens. Smooth = Fast. And yes, I get as much video and photography as I can, as it helps as a learning tool.

To more track days! :beerchug:

Oh, and yes. That's a BFL. Arfcom Team!
