Phil Robertson gets suspended from Duck Dynasty for speaking his mind about Gays

People should not be punished for expressing their views, regardless of who they are, or what job they hold. This is America, and we are supposed to be a country where free speech is accepted and is the norm, even if it offends. I realize though that is not the case today. Liberals are all for free speech as long as you are saying what they want to hear. Liberals have become the speech police. Sad!

While I may not agree with what was said (and quite honestly, I don't care to even listen/read about what was said, so I'm guilty of not even really knowing the details here), I wholeheartedly agree with the simple fact that we as Americans are allowed to have our own opinions. We don't live in a country where we are told how we are supposed to think or feel, though I won't lie, the older I get, the more I see a system that is doing just that - forcing down our throats the PC things we should say and do.

semi said it best earlier and it cannot be said enough and I'll give it my own spin - live your own life, form your own opinions, stand for things you believe in, and do no harm to others - where is the harm in that and why is it that those simple things are no longer "tolerated" in our society??

It will be intresting to watch this one roll out...VaBusa nailed it, America is supposed to have free speech & a mix of opinions. There was no attack on any individual. I've watched this 'PC" bs mushroom over the years...rabid libs are very offensive.

Just one more sign this country is going down the tubes. Liberals can say and do what they want let a Christian man speak is mind and he's blasted. I saw nothing wrong in what he said he just said how he feels. if you don't want to hear some ones opinion don't ask.

Without Phil in the show i doubt i will continue to watch. :( He has some of the best catch lines

This thread makes me laugh though, and makes me happy we aren't living in the good ole' days :)

I've yet to watch an episode of this show and only have a vague idea of what it's about.

So....is this something different than all the other scripted/do anything for ratings, reality shows aimed at the average brain dead American?
Or are the people up in arms over this the same type who were crying and signing petitions over a dead cartoon dog two weeks ago?

I hear tempers will flare tonight as time runs out during a chopper build on OCC. Then a morbidly obese black lady will make a fool out of herself on Hardcore Pawn followed by the yup guy being a big meanie on Storage Wars.

So really, is this Duck Dynasty something new and worth watching and not just another scripted redneck version of the Kardashians? Should I add the pick 'em up truck window clings, shirts and hats to my gift giving list this year? At nearly 27,000 commercial items on ebay, I see there's no shortage.

Who ever he is, he has a right to his opinions. And A&E has a right to terminate whoever they want. If you called your boss a name, or said something they fundamentally disagree with, that is your right. If he/she fires you, that is the way it works. Charlie Sheen comes to mind. Bocephus got canned for expressing himself.

Nobody is being arrested for these opinions. But if you think anybody can say what they want about whatever they want and an employer is involved, think again.

Thought you could not be fired for your religious beliefs? All he stated was the standard Christian belief that is taught throughout america.

I agree with you except for the fact that you know A&E knew that he does interviews.. You shouldn't allow someone to do an interview and then turn around and complain about the answers to the questions...

he has his right to his opinion just like everyone else...can you imagine what would happen if they suspended Ellen Degeneres or Neil Patrick Harris for sharing their view? the media tornado would go category 5!!! i believe everyone should have the right to believe the way they choose and live as they choose as long as they don't start intruding on other's rights :beerchug:

If Ellen and Neil talked about how being straight is wrong and a sin and just the next step toward beastiality and didn't get fired how would all you "right wingers" feel? I'm not a socialist lib either, I just feel like people should quit spewing hate and intolerance and try to get along and quit being offensive towards an entire group of people for no other reason than the way they were born.

Then I should either back out of this as I didn't see what he said, nor when and how he said, or jump in a go see and read what was said, when and how.

Truthfully, I could care less what he said. So I will back out. I don't know who he is and have never watched his show. None of this will change that.

See, that's one problem here. I for one am not "spewing" anything towards anyone. I am simply saying that I agree with Phil's right to freely voice his opinion. And as for the statement you made that referring to gays.... "entire group of people for no other reason than the way they were born." Sorry, there is NO scientific proof of that. Homosexuality is a choice of an individual based on events in their life that mold them in that direction. That's what I believe.

Now, back to the issue. People need to realize that the minute we as a country start letting anyone punish anyone for expressing their First amendment right to free speech, we have lost that right and are in danger of losing other rights granted to us as American citizens. Hey, I don't like anyone speech-bashing me for being a Christian, or "right winger" but I tolerate it because I believe they have the right to do it. I don't run to the news paper and cry foul, and demand that they lose their job, or punish them, etc.

Just my 2-cents.

I might have the wrong information, but you are not describing what I read as far as his comments. He stated a belief and immediately stated he wouldn't crack on someone with different beliefs, and feels that we need to love each other regardless or something like that. If what I read was his actual statement I missed the hate spewing.

Agreed. A&E can do what they want, and be prepared to accept the consequences. It will hurt them a lot more than the Robertsons.

I encourage you to read the full article. Phil didn't "spew any hate and intolerance" (just by saying it this way you fall right into the LBGT 'trap'); Phil said, somewhat bluntly, that he a) doesn't understand it; b) believes it to be a sin and c) hate the sin but love the sinner as it's not he that is the final judge. Yet, ANY dissent from FORCED TOLERANCE must be DESTROYED by the LBGT community.

Remember, Paula Dean was raked over the coals for ONE WORD she said 20 YEARS AGO, yet Oprah can say something just as bad LAST WEEK and she get's applause.

As long as I can turn Ellen and Neil off, they can be as sick as they want to be. Just like MSNBC and CNN, they can go down the tubes because people quit watching them. And the values of the Robertsons are a hell of a lot better than the Kardashians.

he has his right to his opinion just like everyone else...
You would think so wouldn't you? Seems we are suppose to have a freedom of speech but every time someone sais anything about the gay's our freedom is cut off and we are punished for it. I don't watch the show myself. To me when you have to pay someone to get on TV and make a fool of them self's something is wrong. I hope he will stand up for his what he believes. I don't like gays don't want any part of them. It seems you can not watch a TV show now days without one and that is very sad to me.
