PAIR Valve....On or Off?

As a continuation of my last thread regarding thermal wrap, one other question I have is:

The PAIR valve system. Although I do have the marble mod and have read that this is good enough, should I consider taking the whole thing off since I'm right there installing my new performance exhaust? I'm still concerned about any new emissions regulations that might pop up later in my state (Florida). Right now we have no regulation but you never know and what a hassle it would be to put it all back on after I take it off as opposed to just removing the marble mod and put back on the stock airbox ?
Anyone can offer their 2 cents? Its much appreciated.

marble is fine... only thing to gain by removing is about 2 lbs of stuff off the bike.. not worth the trouble IMO unless you already have the pipes off

Yeah, I'm going to be in that position of having the pipes off. Changing stock pipes to HMF dual exhaust but I don't think its worth the trouble for 2 lbs, buying the blocks and all that stuff when you never know when I might need to pop them back on again for some stupid regulation reason. This bike is only meant for my street riding pleasure and not a strictly race bike so I'm leaning towards not doing it. Thanks Bogus! :thumbsup:

I just put a full system on my gen1......I had the marble mod with my slips and it worked awesome, no popping EVER. I didn't even consider removing the pair system, the only benefit is you save a couple of unnoticeable pounds, and spend extra labor/hassle/money in parts for it :dunno: Besides the full 4-2-1 system saved a TON of VERY noticeable weight right where you need it :beerchug: And I also like to leave things easy to put back to stock for me, or future riders, who live or may move into emmissions tighter areas (I also keep all my stock parts ;) ). Will only help resale I think, and I like to cover my a** :laugh:

Not to jack...but I just noticed the prev. owner removed the pair system when I went to sync the carbs and found the hose blocked off...

What should I look for to make sure it was done right...and also... It only has slip ons.. is this ok?

Well if you going "full exhaust" then might as well do it cause you will be right there. If some type of emissions laws change in Florida then you can always put it back on.

Block off plates are cheap.

There are threads here fro both the marble mod and also removing the PAIR system fully. Just do a search. Thats what I did when I wanted to learn about it. to be brief, its the 4 sections that go to the block right next to each exhaust that lead to the main piece of the system below and there are 2 line openings that need to be capped. Thats it. Look for the detailed thread here in this forum.

That's what I did since I had the bike apart to install a Yosh full system. I did save the parts just in case...

Which HMF, the high-mount or the low ????....I'm still waiting for an affordable aftermarket 4 to 2 exhaust that uses the duals, but in a lower mount stock-style.

Well,
HMF makes both but its a set I got used. Its a high mount, however the cans are Akropovik modified to shorties and not HMF. Whether its low or high mount, the full system headers are exactly the same. Its the midpipe that is different. I only need the headers but the whole system was a good bargain so I have the midpipe and cans too.

And the big question was whether or not it will hurt performance at all with only slip ons.. but I guess I can get a full system and PCIII now!

The pair removal does nothing for performance good or bad. All it does is get rid of the backfiring/popping when you go to slips or a full system. As long as no vacuum lines are left unplugged on your throttle bodies and the airbox nipple for the pair system is capped your fine. And be sure the hose going from the pair to the airbox is plugged as well...thats what actually stops the backfires :thumbsup:

If you are in there doing the header pipe I would take the PAIR stuff off and save it. I had my motor on the bench, so it made sense to me to take it off.
