Ok peeps,  99.9 % or more of us speed and most likely everytime we roll outa the driveway. After all we choose the worlds fastest bike... and it probly wasnt all about the looks.

Anyway,  In 7 years I have been tagged only a couple times since I have been riding a Busa ( 1 in Hawaii & 1 in Calif. ) and both times I was just moments before doing at least a buck n a half and when tagged I was down under 90. So it's not that I wasnt guilty of speeding...   My beef is about the way speeding tickets are issued. It can be set up like a trap or a single patrol happens to out there and finds a violator.

And here friends is my real beef about all of this :  The ticket is issued totally at the officers discression!

If we are guilty and caught, then so be it. HOWEVER! If the officer FEELS like it, he can let you go with a warning or if he doesnt like your look, attitude, the color of you bike, he had a bad morning, his wife just left him ...  He can do what ever he wants. Thats pretty much  JUDGE/JURY/EXECUTIONER!  Of course you have the right to challenge it in a court of law ... blah blah blah  But for the exact same offense they can choose to warn you and have a nice day ...

Our LEO deserve our respect  and they have a very tuff job and have to put their lives at risk all too often. But when we are talking minor speed infractions all too many have the Ceasar syndrome with the thumbs up or down.  I think thats wrong!

i imagine most of us wouldnt be able to afford insurance on sport bikes if we were written a ticket every time we were pulled over. i know i wouldnt. if they write you a ticket so be it. you know what you were doing. but ill keep lowering my head like im in front of the principal hoping for the warning instead of 3 swats with the paddle. im glad they get to decide. be respectable and agreeable with all the things they say(cause you know they're true) to you and most times your off with a warning

Most cops are hypocrites, they apply the law the way they want to. This is why I am no longer a cop and have very little respect for them. I still have 3 family members that are on the job, and when I listen to their stories it only backs up my thinking.

When the presidential motorcade goes down the highway at 90 MPH, they have a police escort. If you or I do 90 when get tickets.

My last day on the force happened when I went on a domestic abuse call, where a fellow office beat the hell out of his wife, the other officer decided to not report it, (I was still under my year probation at the time, 10 months on the job) when I talked to my supervisor, he said sometimes it is best to not see everything. He said, that officer may be my backup one day so I may not want to upset him. I quit right then and there.
I am still shocked when I see how badly they screw up, I recently talked with a woman who had been raped, she had 1 of the towns 2 detectives working with her, but this town has 4 motorcycle cops that do nothing but write tickets. What is wrong with that picture.

Here's the REAL story...Its all about the revenue generation. Your speeding ticket $$ is actually split up between State, local and sometimes even the Federal Government.
If you want proof that quota's and measurements of an officers ticket writing ability exist than ask any cop if its true, then stand back as the preprogramed propaganda is uttered.....loudly. Pay careful attention to the details of how the memorized statistics "don't add up".

I cant say anything bad about our LEO's here in CA. So far I have been pulled 3x's and only a ticket to fix (put back on) my mufflers. Every single time though, I was about to swing out of traffic and nail it. I dont know what stopped me but it could have been so bad for me. The thing they seem to do here in Sac. is sit back and wait for you to do the inevitable stupid thing. If you dont then even if you were going a little fast they seem willing to cut you a break.

I got one this morning from an OHP Motor Jock. I know well how both sides work, I was a reserve LEO for 10 years. Did I bring it up that I was a former LEO, did I tell him I spent most of the day Saturday at the races with his first level supervisor and partner?  Nope, I was in the wrong and put him in danger to come out into traffic to the fast lane and back again to the right after he lit me up. He cut me a break in the speed and was very professional about it. Good officer. I’ll take my licks and pay the fine.

You don’t want a speeding ticket, it is easy observe the speed limit.

That's a tough call right there. I think most of us usually come out on top, so I'd have to say I'm happy they make the decision to write you up or let you go. Many of us would be in a fine mess if we got cited every time we got pulled over.

That makes me wonder if LEO's are actually empowered to make the call, or if they just take it upon themselves to do it.

my last ticket only one in az. labor day total didtance travled 100yds.
i left a light hard front may have bounced did not go over the speed limit.
cop got behind me i pulled over. he ws a total **** from the start. he hated me and any guy on a bike, blamed me for every bike who did not stop but ran. i was very polite and respectfull.when i recived the ticket i questned it. the cop told me to shut up and sign the ticket or i would be arrested.
the ticket is for reckless driving speed 41 in a 45. the cop could have wrote it for anything else.
so now i`m forced to hire a lawyer to fight this.
yes they have a job. but why are some such big headed jerks.

the cop is eaven an azz to my lawyer he filed for discovery on sept 9 for the officers notes and charges. he still has not produced them yet.
guns.gif
there is no time limit here. he can bring them to court and that is ok. my lawyer postponed from oct 3 because of no discovery. now my court date is on my birthday nov 8 yea
this has changed how i feel about cops.
done now. have a good day

Damn Ranman... Good on you to fight it. Make it difficult for that jerk cop! You would think that the psych test would weed azz-holes like that out of the equation.

Even though I "act" like I respect the officer when I get pulled over, I don't respect or not respect them personally until I watch their behaviour.

Cops who act professionally and realize they are no better than me, I respect.

Cops who act like they're better than you, talk down to you, or just a downright a$$hole definately don't get my respect.  Obviously if a cop is letting me off, than he can lecture me like my dad.  But if he's writing me a ticket, no lecture.  Just write me the ticket without saying anything, hand it over and say be safe.

Now by bad experiences I don't mean getting caught, I mean the cop was a jerk.  Out of every time I've been pulled over, 80% of the time the cop is a jerk.  I understand cops fear for their lives and want to control the situation.  But if the citizen your pulling over is cooperating and talking to you with respect, then the citizen deserves to be treated with respect as well.

And as for speeding tickets, use the trial by declaration option in Cali.  I'm 3 for 3 in the last year, it feels good to beat the tickets

"trial by declaration" hmmm
I'm guessing that is similar to requesting an information of the complaint? Here in Texas, A way to fight it is -first ; DONT PLEA. by copping a plea, you are walking into their jurisdiction. DONT waive any rights. And there is supposed to be an information-- which they will do- but it usually gets signed by the CLERK! was he there?no Does he have first hand Knowledge? wasnt there. The complaint is bogus. THe ticket does not serve as the complaint or information-- It is merely a promise to appear. yada yada

I have a riding buddy(ZZR600) who got a speeding ticket a few months back around Red Rock here in Las Vegas. The Ranger said he was going a 101 in a 60, so he was required to go to court. He just wen't last week and got fined $1000 plus processing fees! If that wasn't bad enough he can't even go into Red Rock for nine months, I think that's a little extreme! I got a ticket myself some months back also in RR going 80 in a 60. I did not have to go to court but was fined $400 plus $25 dollars for a processing fee. Since it was a federal ticket, "Ticket Busters " wouldn't touch it. This was on the Katana 600, none on the Busa...so far!

Hey all I have to say is if you get pulled be respectful and take your ticket or what ever I know some LEO's can be Jerk's but OH well like professor said if you don't want a ticket then obey the posted speed limit you don't have to crack the trottle wide open every time you go out. I know it is hard not to but some time you just have to hold back.

I pick a bad time to buy a Busa.  I have ridden this
thing easier that most of my bikes.

Don't know if most of you have heard about the new
Street Racing law that came into effect in Canada
a month or so ago.

Basically this....

Its all at the officers discression.

If you are going 50km/h (30mph) over the limit, you get this.... I think..

up too 6 month licence suspension.

1 week impound of your vehicle.

Up to a $2000 fine.

The trial by declaration is a trial by mail. You plead your case via paperwork, the cop pleads his case via paperwork. The judge reads both forms and makes a judgement.

Basically you never have to take time off to go to court. You do it on your own time.

You broke the law, we all do. Don't whine when you get punished. Officers discretion is more about the persons reason, 16 year old kid, parents pay, the lesson is hopefully more important, out of town, unfamiliar.

You can do better than that, and yes the violators attitude has a lot to do with it. I love honesty and humility.
