Being on payed administrative leave is S.O.P. Should he be punished as soon as possible and lets start with his income.? Thats what it sounds like to me. What he did was stupid to be sure. I give you that. There is no comparison to what he has to endure and what the family is going to go through. True enough. Being upset with the fact that he was on payed leave until the investigation is done verses suspension is ridiculous. So what its paid admin leave, big deal. He might get charged eventually. Thats up to the Grand jury. Lets let them decide and just leave this debate, conversation or comments done and over except to remember ALL of the people involved with this in our prayers.

On the news tonight they said the officer that pulled the trigger was out of the academy for 1 month..... 3 officers on administrative leave, I would have to believe his FTO and supervisor are off too..... Tragic is an understatement... No words can express the sorrow and loss the family must be going through...

Prayers are with them all...

I'm not saying the cop shot him on purpose,â€￾ Tracy said. "It was an accident. But let me tell you — if I had a kid and put him in this car and didn't put him in a car seat and he got killed on the way to town, they'd charge me with murder[/Quote]

As true as this statement may be I'm certain that there is a specific procedure that is being followed, not the least of which is the cities legal obligations under the labor unions contract rules.

One of the things that pisses me off is when cops or celebrities get off easier than an ordinary citizen. Having said that, this is just simply an accident. Accidents happen all the time and will keep on happening. You make them, I make them. Sometimes somebody gets hurt, sometimes dies. Its life. I do not think jail time would be appropriate with the info provided, for anybody.

He is one of Gods littlest Angels now. May his Family find peace in knowing this. I know there is a lot of anger because of this, but lets not forget the victim, a sweet little innocent boy. May God rest his soul.

You can handle a snake with any forked branch......

Too bad the animal officer was 86'ed to keep these two geniuses rolling in a squad.

Today the paper said, the Officers went into a chicken house, saw a BIG Snake (unknown and not named) , decided to shoot the snake.  When they shot the snake they were also shooting  through the back of the chicken house which faced the pond the boy was fishing on with his Grand Dad. Bullet hit him in the head. Really the Grand Father is lucky he wasn't also hit.  Funeral was today

This guy most certainly should not be a cop. I don't care if he has a distinguished record or pulled people from burning cars... He just isn't smart enough to carry a gun. Who shoots a snake with a handgun anyway? Prayers for that poor family... I hope they bag and tag the cop though... Stupid doesn't deserve sympathy.

jch364,
What dept do you work for?

That comment makes me think you're a cop, Why you ask? Because if a citizen shot at a snake and hit a kid, they would be not on paid leave, they would be screwed. This cop will more than likely have a city attorney defend him for free also (not a public defender either).

And in the mean time HE destroyed a family, and then he gets paid to sit and think about how to cover his butt.

Yea I am Trucker. What of it? I have not problem with the fact that what the officer did was wrong. stupid or whatever. I don't disagree in the least. And I don't need my comments highlighted. I can read. With the kind of reasoning he used to resolve such a petty situation makes me think he won't be wearing the badge very long. And all things considered its probably a good thing. Please understand I am not trying to make excuses for this guy nor am I trying to justify any aspect of this. My only point is that this not in any way a cake walk for this guy. Yea Im a cop. Have been for nearly 20 years now. So I am sure some people reading this are going to think that I am trying to defend this guy cause i am a cop. I am not. But when I see some statements being made that are completely off the mark I am not gonna sit here and let that go with out saying something. Right a citizen would not be on paid leave. But they wouldn't be fired from whatever job they have either. Look. Over the years I have seen people shot by accident and not be charged and some are charged and on and on and on. each situation is considered on its own merits. Will he be charged? Who knows. Because this is an emotional topic and allot of us have kids, me included, most would say yes. Everyone is in agreement I think that this guy might need to find another line of work. I don't disagree but he is human too. Believe it or not most of the people that wear a badge are just ordinary people. I have always held a philosophy that when it comes to my work, its what I do not who I am. People have so many misconceptions that it boggles the mind. And once again I will restate that I am not defending his actions and that the real tragedy here is the loss of any life for no reason and most of all the loss of a small child.
