So way back around 02' my wife decided she wanted to learn to ride instead of sitting on the back any longer. OK. I buy her the classes for Christmas, they are state sponsered and done at the local HD shop (rip off, like $450). If you pass the class you have earned you license, no road test!!! So they use Buell Blasts for the class. Nice short bike easy to ride (no it's not if you have ever ridden anything else, old school POS). She is only 5'3" and has really short legs. She fits and is comfy on these things. She passes the class and gets her license. The damn HD dealership has them all convinced that HD's are the best and they should start there... So now she wants an 883 as a first bike!!!
NO keep in mind nobody that passed this class has ever been on the "road" with an MC, just around the parking lot at the stealership. never been out of 2nd gear or had to downshift to slow down etc...
I secretly buy her a 1988 CBR 600 that has been beaten but also lowered so the belly pan is almost scraping the ground, got it cheap (like $600) not running. $1200 later, new rectifier, battery, complete brakes, new tires, and lots of work on the carbs. I sneak it home on Christmas Eve blah blah blah... Also got a new riding jacket, gloves and boots. It's still too tall she cannot hold the damn thing up even on tippy toes. So we keep it till spring (I beat it some more...) then I sell that for $2K. she tells me to keep the money. She wants the damn 883 hugger.
Back to the story. I go but a brand new 02' Buell Blast in Purple with the pink script on it. First ride ever on the street and she gets up to 3rd or 4th gear, WooHoo!!! Oh wait, the downshifting thing!!! Completely looses it and rides the bike into the woods on the first corner. Not hurt except her pride, they bike is fine. So I ride the bike home from there. It has been in storage ever since, I pur Stabil in it etc... Twice a year I go and charge the battery and start it up, ride it around the paking lot and put it back away. Well, I got sick of fighting about the bike and stopped registering and insuring the bike in 04' (I am gonna try again, she said every sso often).
I got lazy and just left the damn thing sitting up there. I have not touched it in 2.5 years. I went and yanked the original battery out on Friday and brought it home and charged it. Went back up and pulled the bike out intothe sun. 75 miles on the clock from riding it home from the dealership and around the parking lot. 500cc single, Original 02' gas still in the tank, original battery back in the bike, (no choke on these things), turn on the gas and thumb the starter, cough, cough sputter, twist the throttle and it burped and farted to life, I'll be damned... CLUNK, CRUNCH, into first it goes. I ride the freakin' thing around for 20 minutes or so, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. It is so simple It just still works...
I call GIXERHP and tell him and he says exactly what I am thinking, "That would never happen on a Busa".
God I hate that bike...
