When confronted with any task , there's always choice of tools to use for the job at hand  and a simple garden hoe or shovel could have got this snake killing job done .

What a tragic mistake . It's just a terrible thing to read about and nothing will bring the young boy back .

Wow, that is horrible, one of the first rules of shooting is to know whats beyond your target, you'd think a cop would know such a thing. That is horrible for the family....

Tragic. Very Sad, I have a 5 year old. This would drive me over.

The officers should not have been shooting in a residential area...especially without knowing what was beyond the target.

, and the Officers shouldn't have shot the snake anyway. There are lots of other ways to despose of the snake and

isn't one of them !

This is unbelievably sad. Why would anyone, especially a trained officer, use a 9mm to shoot a snake when they carry shotguns? If he had used his head the snake would have been killed with the first shotgun blast and the innocent boy would still be alive.

Again....... So sad!

Why would you use a firearm at all?? A big stick would do the job nicely. A tragic event. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Wade refused to identify the officer suspected of firing the shots but said the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
We call that a VACATION!

Hold the F*** on there night crawler.! A vacation? That is the most retarded statement I have ever heard. Yes it was tragic. Yes it was a likely mistake. Yes I am sure there were other ways of taking care of this problem and yes it was the officers actions that caused this terrible death. I do feel so terrible for the family but to suggest that for the officer its nothing more than just a vacation is outrageous. You have no idea what is going through his head right now. He will be lucky to return to work at all after something like this. I wouldn't be surprised if thoughts of suicide doesn't cross his mind because of this. He will be screwed up for life because of this incident......Make no mistake, no one comes out of this unaffected. Obviously the family has the most tragic of losses to deal with. But this isn't about who has the most to loose or who is most hurt. Everyone is affected and everyone is hurt and no one involved with this will be the same ever.....

This whole thing makes me so dang angry. My best friend, the man that I served with in the Marine Corps, the man that after we went through combat together, I named my son after. He is a Police Officer in California, and he told me about this incident. Now to read the article and know the details. what an absolutely boneheaded decision. What is going on in the world today? Training and common sense people. I have been around guns and shooting and hunting every day of my life, it somes down to training and common sense. Sorry for the rant, I have two kids and this is frustrating.

yea, wassap with that?
I don't believe in a witch hunt mentality, but common, equal justice for all citizens.
So sad.

I would hate to have to live with that kind of shame for him or loss for the family forever.

Oh man.. Grampa deserves a medal. What get's me was this:

"This is so bizarre it has to be fully investigated. ... We're pretty sure circumstantially that it is the bullet from the police officer's gun, but it might be a bullet from someone else,â€￾ Wade said.
It might be from someone else C'mon! Just don't say anything. "we're investigating" is fine, but then to try and cop out of it (pun intended) is wrong.

I have family who are police officer's and I have a lot of respect for them and for a majority of the force. However I have noticed lately (at least here in NC) they are literally getting away with murder.

Teen in Fayetteville comes to mind and I'm sure if I dig, I can find a few more easily. (could not get an indictment on the cop)

Thinking about it, this is really a tragic accident, but I feel the cop should be put on trial for manslaughter.

That is one of the most terrible incidents I have ever heard.
Guns are very dangerous. And even worse when people with them just don't think.

Clam down playboy. You're taking it the wrong way. Vacation meaning not having to be to work and still getting paid. I didn't mean he gets to go home and "relax".
Yes it was tragic. Yes it was a likely mistake. Yes I am sure there were other ways of taking care of this problem and yes it was the officers actions that caused this terrible death.
It wasn't just the officers actions, it was the officers STUPID actions. I'm sure the officer realizes that now, but now it's too late!
I do feel so terrible for the family but to suggest that for the officer its nothing more than just a vacation is outrageous.
No need to explain it again ...
You have no idea what is going through his head right now.
Neither do you. Furthermore I never said nor implied I did.
He will be lucky to return to work at all after something like this. I wouldn't be surprised if thoughts of suicide doesn't cross his mind because of this. I agree with you 100%.

Now, do you see that little angry face next to my "vacation" statement. I placed that there because it pisses me off when this sort of thing happens and they get "paid administrative leave". He should be suspended WITHOUT pay! I don't care if that'll cause him to go through hard times because he falls behind on his bills nor do I care how it affects his family. Whatever trials and tribulations he and his family would go through would NEVER amount to what that little boy's family is going through. Everything that cop loses would be materialistic and could be replaced. That family has lost their little boy forever!

You get me now ... ?
