I am new to hayabusa.org, and I not to long ago purchased a new black/gray 05 busa (Sept. 05). Unfortunately this past weekend, I laid it down after hitting some oil in the roadway. What's ironic is that I had just got off the phone with the dealership placing an order for sliders. While this is not my first bike (purchased Katana in May 05), it is my first time to lay one down. I have some significant scratching damage to the left lower and upper fairings, and there is a hole in the stator cover, whereas oil poured out of it. I have a few questions that I hope some of you can help me with...

1. Is this something that I should try to repair, or should I look into getting a new bike?

2. I know when cars are in accidents, after repair, often they never look the same; is this the case with motorcycles, more particularly busas?

3. How does laying down the bike affect the value...I always see ads saying that their bike has never been laid down...after repair, can I claim that again?

Any advice that anyone can give regarding laying a bike down for the first time, I would greatly appreciate it...

Thanks...

I did the same thing. i have an 05 Black/Gray laid her down on Holloween.
Left side was scratcehd and hole was in the cover.. oil everywhere.
Luckily she didn't hit anything just slid 196 feet.

If you can do the repairs yourself you can save a lot of cash. Plastic is expensive, but so is your insurance rates.

i put the dual HMF carbonfiber full exhaust system on and replaced the crank cover and plastic.
Now she is better then new! Huge difference the pipes make and I don't think I would of changed the exhaust if it wasn't for the accident.

My 2 cents

Welcome to the board!  Sorry about the crash.  That sucks!

Unless you went down so hard as to tweak the frame (it doesn't sound like it), you should definitely fix the bike.  Are you mechanically inclined?  If you are, just make a detailed list of all the items that are damaged.  Make note of cosmetic verses functional damage.  Either go online to get prices for the parts or bring your list to your favorite dealer.  Decide what work you can comfortably perform and what work needs to be performed by a professional.  You will need to decide if it is worth involving the insurance company.  Look at your deductables and consider the risk of your insurance costs rising if you file a claim.

If your are not involving the insurance company, and you are going to do the work yourself, go out and buy a service manual, order your parts, then have at it!  Look at the bright side, this will make your more familiar with servicing your bike.

Good luck with your decision.

Definitely follow the above advice and fix it yourself so that you can invest the rest of the money into another mod. Glad that you are okay and able to get back on my friend.

You should fix it. Odds are that there is no significant structural damage. Listen to the others, doing the work yourself saves you a ton of cash...
