Anyone know or have opinions on Truimph Motorcycles? I am thinking about getting a Speed Triple. Would like opinions on reliability, ease of maintenance, and trustworthyness of the brand in general.

I like the way the speed triple looks but more importantly after sitting on one I like the more upright seated riding postition and better ergo's as compared to our beloved Busa. After my knee injury, I am finding it even more uncomfortable in the knee department and I have always been pretty stretched out on the Busa because of being fairly short. Also dealing with a left rotator cuff that needs surgery. So, I am gonna be selling Suzy and my recently aquired track bike for something more easy on my aging and damaged frame.

Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated.

I ride with several triple riders on a local board. They are so much easier to flip in and out of the corners than the hayabusa. I know of no trouble that any of the bikes have had. All of them are less than 4 years old though. They do the normal maint. on them and no one has ever complained about any troubles or cost. I sat on one at the motorcycle show last weekend and it did feel very comfy. I would own one in a heartbeat if I could afford both it and the busa.

Thanks for the info Pack! I am pretty sure I am gonna end up getting one, but just am not familiar with the brand, so ya know how a salesperson is, they have a job to do. He even told me they were track worthy and ligit? But all in all, I am really leaning toward the speed triple.

I'm sorry to hear Tom that you are still hurting, and hate to hear you are gonna sell both bikes. Only problem I'd see right offhand with a Triumph would be parts and service.

Maybe not much better, but take a look at the BMW K1300; every bit as good as a Busa with ABS (more expensive) but they have a much higher riding position you might find a good middle ground.

Gonna come to Bash?

Jet Li you must never forget that your super powers and awesomeness come from the Busa. Without it you are ordinary Thomas the skinny nerd from Iowa. :)

Speigler topclamp makes a huge difference in comfort. It's worth the cost.
The bars they send are very good, but other bends are available too for around $20.
I was going to get a B-King because of back problems, but tried the Speigler clamp first.
I'm glad I did.
If you have any desire to keep your Busa they are worth a try, and the handling is improved if anything.

My first sport bike was a Daytona 955i. The only problem I had with it was a gas leak. I took the tank to the local Triumph dealer and got the part I needed free because it was a recall, fixed it in about 10 minutes. I have a buddy that rides them all the time and loves them. I considered picking up the Triumph America a while back. We have a good dealership in my area so the issue of parts and wrenching is not an issue.

If the bike feels good to you, I say go for it.

Cheers

Hiya. LCB's husband here. Although I don't own a Speedie, I do have a Tiger 800. The 1050 motor in the Speed Triple is pretty tried and true, and Triumph has seen fit to use it in the Tiger 1050, Sprint ST, and most reecently, the Sprint GT.

Things I like about Triumph:
  • Two year standard warranty
  • Standard steel braided brake lines
  • Superb fit and finish
  • Excellent customer service, starting at the corporate level (The Tiger had a stalling issue, which was solved by a phone call to Triumph North America, and a trip to the dealer for an updated engine map)

As far as the Tiger goes, it's a supermoto on steroids. I think the Triumph triple motor in general is the best of both worlds: the torque of a v twin and the smoothness of an I4.

LCB here.... My next bike will be the Street Triple R and it's gonna be my track bike. My mechanic is a huge Triumph fan and has owned many over the years, currently a 2001(?) Trophy and a 2007(?) Sprint ST. He's a rider's rider and I trust him with my life. When I told him I wanted the Street3R to take to the track, his eyes lit up like I'd just bought one for him. The Triples are good looking bikes, they feel great just sitting on them - I can't wait to ride one of my own. FYI - the only reason I haven't ridden one already is because if I do, I'll bring it home and there just isn't room for it... yet.

Find a dealer and go for a test ride. Triumph does Demo Days all around the country a few times a year so check their website. If you're ever in Dover DE, go see the guys @ L & D Suzuki - my dealer will let you take out any bike on the floor, just tell them I sent you.
