So my father went out and bought another bike lift today at harbor freight to go along with our home made one which actually works really well... Well like an idiot he was putting one of his bmw's on it and left the kick stand down while putting it on the lift and on the way up the ramp WHAM hits the kickstand and down goes him and the bike. Ive told him repeatedly not to do this because it was going to happen but does he listen... NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol. So now with a shattered fairing and a bunch of bruises my father finally after 30 years has learned maybe he should listen to me. But lesson to everyone if you have a hoist put up your kick stand before you wheel a bike up on the hoist. Oh and HARBOR FREIGHT LIFTS FRONT WHEEL CHOCK SUCKS HORRIBLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha yeah hes alright just well earned bruises for not listening... i guess its like telling a kid over and over not to touch something hot and eventually you have to just let them do it and learn

Sigh

Where has respect gone, with the new young generation?

Glad he is OK, hope you will support and help him fixing the bike.

I put my son through the best college as an international student, around $50,000 a year, graduated, great job. Does he return my calls? Does he reply to my emails? Does he make time for visiting? No...

I guess it is just a sign of either getting old, or the times we live in.

I'm glad you father's okay but I have to agree with jellyrug. Where's the respect?

Your father made a mistake but, in my opinion, calling him an idiot is very disrespectful. Who here can say that they've never made a stuipid, costly mistake? Maybe growing up as a child and dad came to the rescue? Anyway, if somehow you haven't yet, I guarantee that one day you will.

In my view "Father" is not just something you call someone - it's a position of responsibilty, an office, if you will, in the family. Similar to "Office" of the President of the USA. Even if you don't particulary agree with the person holding that office, the office itself should be respected.

Sorry for the rant, its just one of those things that strikes a nerve... :soapbox:

I replaced the chock that comes with it with the bigger HF motorcycle chock. Glad your dad's okay other than perhaps his ego for having to admit that you were right.

for some reason this thread never updated on my computer... my father and i have a very love hate relationship he is just like paul senior on american chopper and our relationship is just like that and we fight just as bad as they do... he never listens to me and is always right even when it comes to stuff that falls under my degree and my experience and training in many jobs. Yes my father has been there to help me for part of my life and no wasnt around for the most part when i was young and ive been there to help him just as much and he would say the same about me if i did this. Actually instead of helping me fix the problem like i did for him he would have stood there and screamed at me for making a mistake and then walked away and told me to figure out how to fix it my self... I actually left in the middle of a date to make sure he was ok after him doing nothing but yelling at me on the phone like i was the one who dropped his bike, then when i got there he yelled at me like it was my fault and then walked away while i got the bike up off the ground and back on the lift and inspected the damage. Theres a thing to remember anyone can be a father but it takes a real man to be a dad.. dont think just because someone is a father that they are a great dad and that they are innocent and deserve to be treated the best. No im not saying i treat my father like **** but im 30 years old and have been through the ringer with my father and have every right to call him an idiot for some of the things he does. And until you own and run a business with your father i can honestly say you dont understand what the arguments are like on american chopper LOL.

I agree with card just because he has a son doesn't make him a father that deserves respect. I see alot of older guys on here that seem to be really good fathers but that's not true for alot of people's dads or moms.

Any man can be a father, but it takes a great father to be a Dad! Thankfully I had a Dad delt in my hand in the cards of life. Me and my Dad were opposites had no interest in motorcycles or wrenching growing up but we respected our differences and personalities. Now that he is gone I look back and smile on some of the arguments we had over the years but always managed to carry great conversations afterwards. Takes a man to respect even if you dont always agree, its your father and your only given one of them..

A dad admit to his son that he was wrong?!
Never happen

Of course you realize he meant to do that and was just showing you how not to put a bike on a lift :)
