MotoGP 2024

I read an interesting comment on twitter today regarding the 2027 Aero Regulations. He brings up a great point!

It seems like the manufacturers have agreed to 850s in the near? future so, if this actually happens which company is farther along in this development? Will they all be V4s or will Yamaha stay with an in-line? In addition to his huge paycheck was Fabio given some inside info that told him to stay with Yamaha? Will the 850s come from the same motors they’re using now or will they be really new engines? I’ve never liked efforts to slow down racing.

Anybodies guess at this point. I read an article yesterday that KTM might even be looking at an inline 4! A lot can and will change in 3 years.
 
BTW Gaige Herrera won his eighth straight Pro Stock championship. They always announce “Hayabusa” due to the bodywork but they never touch on the fact that it (isn’t ) a Hayabusa. History making day for Gaige surpassing a record that stood for decades. The announcer said they’re running 14,000 revs across the finish line. Gaige runs in the mid sixes over 200 mph. Rossi was impressed.

What is it if not a Hayabusa platform?

With all the talk about whats going to happen at the top of the heap with Marquez, Martin, and Bastianini next season, I thought it would be fun to ponder whats going to happen at the opposite end of the spectrum!

Honda now have the worst bike in the class and Mir and Marini are both already looking for the exit. Nakagami is likely not going to be in the class next year unless he has a miraculous comeback. Have heard rumours that Ai Agura has been mentioned to replace him as they want a Japanese rider on the LCR Idemitsu team. Right now Zarco is the only one showing any promise, and loyalty to Honda. So who else might be willing to take on the Honda at this point? Alex Marquez was not shy about how bad things were at Honda after he left, so likely not going to see him returning there. Franco Morbidelli is in a bad spot right now, Aldeguer is slated to replace him at Pramac, might he be one of the ones to take a chance at Honda? Alex Rins hasn’t had the best season on his new Yamaha, might HRC want to bring back their only recent race winner? If he does, his seat on the Factory Yamaha squad might be attractive to quite a few folks! Everyone seems to be eyeing up the Trackhouse Aprilia seats currently occupied by Oliveira and Raul Fernandez. Fernandez just got the 2024 bike and has actually shown flashes, will it be enough to keep him in the class? Mir and Marini have both been mentioned in particular to be after their seats, and Joe Roberts name has been mentioned alot! I cant really see them moving on from Oliveira, he is a proven MotoGP race winner, but you never know. Then you move into guys like Jack Miller and Augusto Fernandez. Miller used to ride for Honda so he might be tempted to make the leap if things at KTM turn completely sour amidst the Pedro Acosta onslaught. Fernandez may be another class casualty as he really hasn’t achieved a lot on a Factory Gas Gas, but he has had some good runs this season. The VR46 guys aren’t going anywhere so you can rule them out of any moves.

Then there’s the question of Yamaha’s desire to have a satellite team (again). VR46 already shunned them, and Pramac is being courted by them. At some point the FIM may have to step in and tell Ducati they simply can’t keep fielding 8 bikes. If that happens, they would be forced to part ways with a couple of the current satellite squads like VR46, Gresini or Pramac? If they (FIM/Liberty media) ever hope to attract other manufacturers to the class it has to happen.
 
Another Domino falls. Aleix is retiring, leaving his factory Aprilia seat open for??? My best guess would be Bastianini, but who knows.
Aprilia currently has no current rider contracted beyond the end of this season! So there could be a lot of action there!

I wonder if anyone asked the rider what he wants to wear. It will be easy to spot going round the track. The fewer red Ducatis the better.
 
FP1 Results today. The GP23 Ducati's are all suffering with rear grip it seems, for whatever reason the GP 24's are much better here??? Rins impressive with the new Aero Package on the Yamaha straight to Q2 and Top Japanese bike. Aleix on Pole with a new track record the day after his retirement announcement. Aprilia needs a top talent and a primary sponsor for next year to build on this! Binder crashed twice and still managed to go P2!

What’s needed are longer/wider (paved and painted) runoff areas. The worst thing that happens to a laid down bike is tumbling thru a gravel trap flipping end over end destroying it. Ever notice?
 
Wow that was a race for cooler heads, and none cooler than Aleix! Seemed like no one wanted to lead that race. Fernandez, Binder and Bagnaia all crashing out of the lead! Fernandez on that 23 Aprilia was leaving them for dead until he crashed. Same bike destroyed em there last year! Marquez 14th to 2nd with one wing missing was a site to see, and he moves into 2nd in the championship! Cant even imagine going 220mph with one wing missing!!! In the last 3 races he has looked like a Kenny Roberts "Water Through a screen door" impersonation from the early 80's! If they can get Qualifying figured out he is going to be a handful! Acosta will win a race soon there's no doubt. Tomorrow will surely see more patience, as everyone is talking about how slippery/abrasive this surface is.

Not a lot of people like these Sprint races, but man have they been spectacular to watch lately.

MM was the star of the show for sure. Placing 2nd from a 14th position start was pretty cool. He didn’t crash and he didn’t cause anyone else to crash and only came close once. Granted, he had the benefit of, what was the number of crashes from the front runners, 3-4? (That) was hard to watch especially the Bagman, crashing out in 1st place on the last lap. There wasn’t a Honda or Yamaha in sight. I think Fabio Q made the top ten though. What a paycheck for a guy who rides a consistent 9-10th place motorcycle huh? How much is he making per race?
