I know folks were curious about linking GPS and radar detector functions to the Motion Research (SportVue) HUD units, so I thought I'd post this up here.

They have offered the first 500 users (the SportVue500 team) a free upgrade of the radar detector link. Here is the quote from the email I got

THE NEW SPORTVUE RADAR DETECTION ACCESSORY KIT...This upgrade is under development now and will be provided free of charge to any member who completes the purchase of the MC1 before the January 31 deadline. This kit will allow SportVue to integrate to an existing radar detector and show any radar activity on the HUD!

I emailed them and asked what they would support and found that they will definately support the Escort X50 and the Valentine One. He did not mention if others were also supported, but these two were definates.

so FWIW, if this was something holding you back, it seems that they are listening and responding. No word yet on any kind of GPS integration and while its the "cheap" way to do it, a wheel mounted sensor *should* be pretty dang accurate to measure speed of a object in motion (been around on bicycles for decades).

Good to know. I have a SportVue on my wishlist.

I ordered mine today and hopefully will have it soon. I'll post some pics of the install and all that when I get it and get setup.

I'll be going down the their office tomorrow to see how it will hook-up to the Hayabusa. I'll post any new info that I get.

truwrecks, if you do come up with info about the tach wire from the main box of the sportvue that connects to which wire on our bikes, it would be a great help, there are a couple of us who have been waiting on that very answer.

Okay. Here's the scoop. SportVue add the Hayabusa instruction to their website this AM. I have a printed copy I'll post tonight if anyone needs it.

I had a chance to play in their R&D lab today! WOW! Again, WOW! The HUD is VERY, VERY cool! The HUD can be used with multiple bikes, for those who own more than one. Each bike would need it's own transmitter. The HUD is easy to read in any lighting. They use Red as the color, because it's the ONLY color that won't ruin your "night vision" (when your eyes adjust to low light), otherwise you wouldn't be able to see past the display at night. The display will last about 20hrs per battery change (try NiMH batteries, they should last about 30hrs). If your group riding with other HUD users your HUD stays connected ONLY to your bike.

The "rumors" of the Radar Detector addition have been disp...Confirmed! They will have the Radar option in the HUD very soon.

They said we could get a pretty good discount if we do a group order (about 25 or more) before the end of the month. We need to workout the details if anyone else is interested.

I was sold when they said "Here. Try this HUD and see what you think!"

I'm order #1 for this mod!

BTW...The group discount will be somewhere around 15-20%!  That put the retail kit at about $264 if we get 20% ($329 retail)!

Sounds like a good deal, especially if it works to everyone's satisfaction.

the $264 price point is a really good deal. The sport vue 500 team only gets to buy them for $229 and that was after investing $40 into it months ago. Considering thats 20k, we probably were the "last round of investors" as a buddy mentioned one day. Anywho, the point is 264 is a good deal for a group buy price

I just ordered my MC1 kit. It should be here soon (as fast as it can be shipped across Seattle Metro (I wonder if they'll let me ride down to the shipping office to pick it up in will-call?). We'll see. I'll post install and review info after I get it installed.
