It's winter (sort-of in Arkansas), so time for mods. I bought the bike this past July with 6200 miles on her. She was stock except for a paint job I wasn't too thrilled with and a pair of Micron slip-ons. This is a pic of the way the bike looked when I got her:

I stripped the bike down to all her naked glory:

The paint had to go, so I sanded it down:

So after the sanding, I sprayed the primer:

After the first coat of primer dried, we went back and resanded any blemishes and then reshot another coat. My wife wanted to try her hand at the paint gun.

She thinks it's funny to take pictures of me when I'm not expecting it, so...

So, now it sits, all primed, waiting for a good wet sand, then I need to decide on a color. I'm leaning towards a very dark gray-graphite. I'm by no means a good painter, so it's just going to be a single color.

Anyway, while I'm wating on that, the wife bought me a pair of sprockets and an RK X-Ring chain for christmas (17 front and 43 rear). The rear tire was worn out, so since I had it off anyway, on went a new Dunlop Sportmax Roadsmart rear. It matches the front that I put on last month.

So, the rest of the winter project includes new mirrors, McCulloch HIDs (6K low and high), and a different gas cap. All this stuff is just sitting here awaiting installation when I get the paint finished. Oh, and a full exhasut if I can come up with the $$$$. I love winter projects!

Nice! Guess I'll get in line for those slip-ons. Have the same ones, but wouldn't mind another set.

So an update. It took me a while to decide on a color. I went with a dark Gray Metallic. Looks black from some angles, gray to silver from others.

However, I know how everyone, including myself, is with pics, so without further adieu:

Let me just say that wet sanding completly sucks! For the people that do this stuff for a living, you're a better person then I. I think I would stick a fork in my eyes after the first week.

The Nose is ready for some color!

This is the only pic we took while clear coating. Maybe I should have rented a paint booth or something!

She says she's ready for a bath then reassembly.

Whew! That was quick!!
standard.jpg

We finished it Satirday night, and I took it out today to fill it with gas. New rear tire, new sprocket, it's about 43 degrees out and a little damp. No better time to take a freshly painted bike for a spin, eh?? Yes, I was VERY nervous. I have no idea if the 43 tooth sprocket makes a difference, I was riding it like a Rookie. :cheerleader: I was hoping for a sunny day so I could get some decent pics, but nope, just a bunch of clouds.

And backed into the garage, with a shot of the new HIDs.

Fantastic job....night and day from the initial 'saving Nemo' paint job. You going to put stickers on it?

 Nemo is what my wife has called it from day 1! I'm still debating on stickers. And I have a tank protector I'll put on it a couple weeks, I need to let the clear cure for a while longer.

Can still keep the low profile and get CF type stickers. Guy on Ebay sells all different types of ones to choose from.
