Is the locksmith lying to me??

Lost the key to my gen 1 hayabusa. Contacted a locksmith and he said he needs the whole bike because the ignition, gas cap,and trunk Lock all hold 3 separate info that needs to be combined to cut a key.

This was after I told him I have the ignition removed and can bring it on for him to make me a key. And that the same key is used for all the locks.

I called another locksmith that said all he needs is the ignition as long as the steering lock isn't engaged. I get the feeling the first locksmith is lying to me just to get my bike there to make sure it's not stolen but just doesn't have the balls to say it. Thoughts?

Locksmiths are a strange breed, I’d say that first guy had an agenda to ask you to bring the bike to him…
Probably cheaper to buy an aftermarket lock set unless you can get a couple of keys cut and keep one as a spare (which you really should have had organised when you first acquired the bike)
Hope it all works out anyway.
Yeah I bought 3 blank keys to get cut. I need an extra for my gen 2 but I know that one had a chip in it so I have to get from a dealer or something

There are automotive specialist locksmiths that can supply generic chipped keys AND code the chips to the ECU . . . Well I know there is that service here where I live (NZ) so I assume it’s the same where you are. . .
Ring around automotive locksmiths and ask, could save a few bucks instead of buying OEM keys.
