Stock '03 Busa, and I'm thinking of going -1 up front. Do I have to mess with the chain at all (remove links, etc.)?

Yes. I did the mod to a chain with 10 k on it. Its almost stretched to its max

1 up in front would be 18. I assume you mean down in front from 17?

I actually wrote " -1 up front". I probably should have written "-1 on the front"

I'm not sure but I believe going down on the front should give you slack on the chain. Going up stretches the chain.
