he loved sailing, had a mustache, liked rum, and never stopped chasing booty. i miss you pop, it's been a tough 9 years without you.

Dad's are pretty damn special. I just dropped my Dad off last night at UVA Med for a week of cancer treatment...cried like a baby when I left; still fighting back the tears this morning, but I know he's tough and I'll see him soon.

I'm so sorry guys  I truly wish from the bottom of my heart things were different for you both right now...

It must be terrible losing a parent, I don't know what to say really, but he sounded like a fun guy. Anyway Love to you and twotonevert and anyone else who have lost a loved one.
VaBusa hope your Dad gets well soon, love to you as well. Dave

I lost my father last year, he was only 56 and it was way too early for him to go. It is hard, and on some days it is almost unbearable.

Your father did sound like a pirate, what an occupation to have :)

yea, dad was 48 when he passed. i think the whole thing was tougher for my grandma. grandpa died a couple years later, she's been by herself now for almost 7 years. i hope i get home soon enough to see her. i'll tell you what, life is what happens when you're busy making other plans.

it happens brother, it happens to all of us. i was just drinking rum and thinking about the past when i decided to post up. speaking of which, captain morgan private stock goes perfectly with an ACID cold infusion cigar. match made in heaven for sure.

Ogre, I think the mortality of human beings, or even our pets, is just so deeply disturbing on so many levels. I get so melancholy when I think of the loss of my loved ones..Do you know that song by Jimmy Buffett.."Yes , I am a pirate born two hundred years too late. Canons don't thunder and there's nothing to plunder. I'm an over 40 victim of fate....made enough money to buy Miami but pissed it away so fast..." see if you can pull it up and listen to it if you don't recall how sweet a song it is...
My dad is 81 and mom died three years ago..he moped around for a year and then found a 65 yr old child...He is chasing her around the country all of the time and having a great time...I'm just happy that he is healthy and happy...God bless our time on this earth...cause we never know what is coming around that corner...life is absolutely capricious...

Sounds like a good man. A year ago my friend lost his dad, and that in turn made me take the song "live like you're dieing" by Tim McGraw and apply it with my father. It's been a good year.

After 20+ years of NOT liking or enjoying my father. We have recently made a new bond between the two of us. I don't know how it happened or what really started the process. I love him and like him now. We both worked for the same fire dept. We work together laying carpet/flooring. Have cookouts. watch tv. movies, understand jokes that other question our sanity. Before that this. I could have cared less when he passes. Now, i dread the day that he passes. Almost everyday I see him or call him and say "I sure do love you". I haven't experience what you have, but i can almost feel the hurt and the realization that my best friend will be gone.

I do hope that your life is full of fond memories and can relate with others by the relationship you possed with your father.
