Good stuff. Have to be loyal to yourself these days, not the employer.

The only good thing I have found about Texas is no income tax which is nice :beerchug:.

I am very happy for you man! How did you get your resume out there? Online searching?

I made a similar move about 5 years ago. Better pay, better benefits, pensioned, bonuses and easier and less work to top it all off. Best move I ever made..

I have my resume on Monster but that didnt help me any. The company we buy our product from is based out of Houston so I called them and got a list of 24 companies that buy from them that are local to Houston. I looked each one up and only 1 company fit each item of my check list. Then I map quested them and found out that they are 2 miles away from my cuz, who is an estimator for a painting company. I called him up and asked him if he knows anyone there and he said he was on a first name bases with the owner and the lady up front is a friend of his so he put in a good word for me. Turns out the guy was looking for someone with my skil set (estimator/project manager) so he asked me to fly out and meet him. One week later and I made a the deal. He had a local Houston guy that he tried to hire twice before and the guy turned him down. 2 years later that same guy is looking for work but I impressed him so much in my interview that he said he wasn't even going to call the other guy. The job is mine and I start in 6 weeks.

Some of you may remember me b**chin about my job and how my boss takes credit for everything I do and pays me in peanuts, constantly increases my work load and never thanks me for coming in early and staying late every day. I have been with these guys for over 12 years and I have finely had enough. I put my resume together (thanks again Busa Jules for fixing the spelling and grammar) and put it out for all to see. I found a job working for a company that does the exact same thing as me and even buys their products from the same venders. The only difference is that this company is in a larger market place and can afford to pay me what I’m worth. I have asked my boss for a raise several times and I always get the same answer, “if you don’t like it go find another jobâ€￾. Well, I took his advice and now he’s begging me to stay. I just scored myself a raise of $22,560 a year, my health insurance is now paid for in full by my employer, I get a company gas card to use whenever I want, and they have a 401K that he matches 5%. The gas card alone will save me $300 a month and I have no 401K where im at now. I will get yearend bonuses that range from $1000.00 to $15,000.00 depending on the amount of business I bring in and my salary is only a starting point. The company I work for now could never afford to pay me close to what the new company is starting me at, let alone increase it as time goes on. The only bad part about is I need to relocate my family to Houston Texas. I grew up in Washington DC and swore I would never move back to a major city but living in a small town has only gotten me small pay so if I want to support my family the way I want I need to move to a larger market place soooooooooo Houston here I come. Houston is not all that bad; I have a couple of cushions who live there so I have some support. I can’t wait to start the next chapter in our life and Im looking forward to moving to Houston!
You ungrateful bastard! And after all your previous employer has done for you too.

399 posts, and none of them productive. Great job! Maybe the 400th will be the one?

Congrats to you man. I will never understand why managers do that. I mean if you think about it it would cost them less to compensate you a bit more If you are a valuable employee than to treat you like dirt and them when you leave not only lose your experience and knowledge but then have to pick up your slack, find a replacement, train the replacement and hope they are as productive as who they let get away!!!

Congrats Charlie!

What part of Houston? If you have any questions or need any help, shoot me a PM and I'll help what I can.

I'm not a big Houston fan but sometimes you've got to move where the work/pay is...

At least you'll be moving as the weather starts to cool off soon...

Welcome to TEXAS...
