How to remove plastic under triple tree

Trying to install helibars. Even with a rag underneath, My breaker bar removed the paint off the plastic (I will need to buy a new one now ). I saw others removes the top plastic. I removed both push pins and the bolt but couldn’t get it removed. I have a hard time two g how hard to pull before I break something.

So, I’m really bummed/pissed and still cannot install risers. Total failure so far!

Have you considered removing the entire top triple tree and securing it in a vice (with soft jaws and rags), then remove OEM bars and fitting new heli bars?

Nope. Following instructions and even used rag. It’s really a pita to access those bolts.

Those Allen bolts underneath are so hard to get to and stiff all the way out, i must’ve turned the bars left to right a dozen times. I also wear 3X gloves so no easy task getting my hands in their. Someone said it was a 10 or 30 minute job, I didn’t time it but it must’ve taken me around 2 hours.

Did y’all remove the plastic pieces on top? I do t know how. If I could remove those I’d do it. I removed one bolt but put it back on after I saw scuffed paint.

No I did not remove the plastic pieces, I used a standard Allen wrench and kept my hand covering the end of the wrench so it would not contact the paint. I also used like 5 towels covering everything around the area. Once you get the bolts out you can lift the assembly up and roll it forward, I also removed the clutch and brake masters and placed them to the side as much as I could and still. With all that stuff removed it’s so easy to hurt something.

I had to Use breaker bar and that’s what rubbed the paint THROUGH the towel. SMH.

Wow, I know! those bolts were very tight. Those accidents takes all the fun out of doing things. It’s depressing.

Once the Allen and push pins are removed you just gently lift it up and it pops out. Front piece towards cluster has a little tab. So lift from Allen screw location up and it will sort of hing at the corner near the cluster.

Oh and I also removed the windscreen to make more room but I forgot to mention that earlier.

And here’s the casualty. It’s not that noticeable but I will replace that piece soon.

And yes, the riding position is noticeably better. Worth the $ and effort.

For others, I strongly recommend you take those top pieces off to prevent damage and get more working room.

here is a video of the panel removal if you are ever stuck go and try you tube first, it has always helped me , i have done my lowered pegs which is far far more3 comfortable for me , that is a 20 minute job and no problem, i also want to fit the cnc mot risers the access doesnt look that bad once the screen and top panels are removed , but looking at mine there does not seem much slack on the hydraulic pipes and cables, i may be wr5ong but looks very tight then you need tyo also turn the bars , wish i could see a video of the risers being installed i am so unlucky something would go wrong for me !!!!!"!

Use 3 towels. One over while tank behind risers, on in front of risers protecting dash and then a larger hand towel to place UNDER the OrM riser once bolts are removed. This completely Protects the bike. Then you can easily one hand the OEM riser with one hand while you place heli riser beneath. Thats what I did. Plenty of slack, even though I shared your concern.

thanks for that , so i am not alone it does look the lines and cables are going to be too tight, but the bars lift off ok without disturbing any lines or cables, i take it the ignition switch also lifts off with it , then once you drop on your riser it easily lifts back on and even when turning the bars it does not compromise any of the lines or cables , sorry for keep asking questions but i have never done it before on this bike and i dont want to damage anything or cause myself any issues , too many things to disturb on this bike , thanks again. dont suppose you want to take them off and start again , but this time video it for me !!!!!! The ignition switch does not come off with the assembly.

It’s not required but it will give you more working room if you remove the windscreen, it’s only two screws.
