That's seperate.
If you live in a county, you pay county taxes.
If you live in a town, you pay town And county taxes(total bs, should be one or the other).
And if you live in a city, you pay city taxes, or city and county depending on where you are.
Most personal property taxes are now due in June and December, or all in Dec plus 10%, it varies, it used to just be Dec, but all the greedy dumbasses who can't balance a budget want half the money mid year in most places now.
Personal property tax is on cars, bikes, rv's, houses, etc.
When you buy a vehicle in Va, you pay taxes on the value at the dmv, plus tag and title fee(or the dealer adds that to the total cost).
Then annually you pay for a sticker with the year on it to go on your license plate(the month sticker remains from the month you first got the plate), which comes with a new registration card.
You have to buy this annually, but can opt to buy a 2 or 3 year registration at a slightly cheaper price.
You also have to have an annual Va State Inspection sticker for your windshield, for $20, done at any(most) garages or dealerships, it' just a safety check(and emsissions only in Northern Va)
Bike State Inspections are $12, $16, or $20, depending on where you go(makes no sense).
And personal property tax is also due annually or split in two(June and Dec) on houses, land, rental property, etc.
I have a mortgage, and fortunately with 3.5% fixed intrest...and have my home owners insurance and annual personal property taxes included in my monthly payment.
Fortunately my payment on the house cannot increase, but the taxes and insurance do, and those two combined have caused my monthly payment to have gone up $115+ per month in about 3 1/2 years.
Bunch of crooks.
As said, can't balance a budget, so they just continue to increase taxes...and insurance companies are no better.
I do pay about $50 more a month in home owners insurance too, because I have a wood stove(never use it, but like to be able to if I want or need to), and I have a trampolene.
Wouldn't it be nice to be taxed once and done on everything...
But otherwise, cost of living here is low, and I love living in the country, away from alot of people.
This part of Va also has excellent riding, with 4 seasons and fairly mild winters.
