Anyone have any helpfull hints installing the highmount single system. I have the radiators moved up for access. I can't seem the get the primary pipes off the heads to seat properly because the X-Y collectors at the bottom are right up high tocuhing the oil pan...almost like the bends are to much at the bottom of the primary pipes. I installed everything loose like it says...but cant seem to make the pipes seat against the heads flush when i go to tighten everything. Anyone else have these issues. The pipe copper gaskets are good and everything seems to be put together right other then where the bolt onto the head. Any ideas so I don't mess up my bike putting this system on?
I also took off the PAIR valve stuff, put the blockoff plates on and changed to the muzzy fan.
Whats the best MAP for this system with a stock airbox and BME filter...the akaprovick map?
Just looking for some helpful hints. This 4 hr install is already on hour number 10..hahah.

DJD,
I am the buddy Shibumi was referring to. I tightened the primarys to make sure they were good and sealed. Then I assembled everything else loose. Once it was all together, I put my hand on the x-pipe and wiggled (technical term) and pushed up towards the oil pan. There is precious little clearance between the oil pan and x-pipe.

Another suggestion. The left side "S" has a tendency to get too close to the swing arm. Take a rubber door stop and wedge it between the swing arm and the "S" pipe before you tighten it up. Before I buttoned it all up, I supported the bike on a steel bar thru the swingarm pivot hole and jackstands and disconnected the dog bones so that I could move the swing arm the full range of motion to make sure that it wasn't going to touch the "S" pipe on the left.

Hope this helps.

BTW,
It took us about 6 hours to do the exhaust. I had the pair, muzzy fan and small air box mod done before hand.

Tightening the two bolts at each pipe to head connection evenly might make a difference as well. The slight difference of the angle at the head will be magnified at the bottom. Good luck.

I finally finished it...kinda...thanks for the hints. Put the primarys on first kinda tight then used alittle lithium grease to fit the X-Y pipes on....had to cut and inch off at the end to get the muffler to line up with the bolt holes on the mounts...fits good so far. All thats left is finding out where the hot spots are and making sure nothing starts to melt. Definitely throws off some heat from the header...was thinking about getting it ceramic coated...or wrapping it...but F that after taking up 2 nice riding days to put it all together. I took it for a spin around the block and it sounda great...kinda like my 04 gsxr 1000 did...maybe a tad louder...similar system on that one.
Again...thanks for the helpful hints. Anything else I might wanna watch or look for now that it's on.
I think I'm done with mods for this season and just gonna ride it....see what next year brings along for mods and $$$$. Can't wait to challenge the new 08 busa II.
Later guys, Dman

Watch your belly pan... I used spacers to bring it about an inch away from the x pipe.

Mine had a little melting on the inside only, along the bottom edge of the right fairing. Use some of the adhesive backed heat shield like the stuff that came with the exhaust, available at speed shops, and try to cover front to back.

Dman,
I did forget to mention that I put Thermatec 2000 degree F heatshielding on the inside of the fairings where the pipes get close. I had just a bit of bubbling in the little tray on the belly wing. You can't see it unless you take the wing off.
