Hiding a Radar Detector

My radar has saved me many times from getting a ticket, not for speeding, but for crossing the double yellow line. Here is California, our curvy roads are an opportunity to stretch your legs, but it's quite a buzzkill to pull the trigger and pass a slower car, only to see the CHP coming toward you in the oncoming lane.

My Escort 9500ix with the Escort Live! app running through my phone via bluetooth gives up to the second alerts by other users... It's saved my butt a lot of times and I'm sure I've saved others. When I see a leo on the side of the highway shooting, I hit a button to send an alert, it uploads the location, and anyone using an escort w/ the Live! feature within 5 miles will automatically know where that leo is. The alert is active for 24 hours.

I was certifed to run radar a long time ago. Here's a few facts.

Any radar gun can pick you up from a loooong way off unobstructed.
Radar can track a car while following, approaching from the front or from the rear.
The radar gun uses the background signal from the radar to detect the speed the cop car is going and automatically calculates the target speed.
The car must be approaching from less than a 45 degree angle or the return is invalid.
They make a tone corresponding to the speed of their target and jump from target to target based on the strength of the return.
It is amazingly easy to tell which car it is tracking due to the visual cue along with the sound.
Pulse radar is just putting the gun in idle then flipping it on at the last minute. The radar detector sees the sudden signal and cales it "Pulse"
If the cop knows what he is doing, when you get a "Pulse" indication that means you are most likely nabbed.
Most cops leave their radar on while driving with the sound turned down as a deterrent to speeding.
Nobody uses X-band and most don't use K. They all use KA or LIDAR
LIDAR is almost always used in speed traps from a stationary position.
If you get a LIDAR hit and you are speeding you are screwed.

Depending on the cop car, built in heater fans can screw up the cops radar return so they keep the fan off.
The gun calibration is checked each day prior to use using a pair of tuning forks. One for 35 mph and one for 55mph.

A cop does not need to have you "Locked in" on his radar gun. He just needs to observe you and the gun. It usually does not make a difference in court.
