HID goes dim, turn on high beam and its bright again.. bad bulb?

*didnt know if this would be appearance mods or electric..

So anywho, I start my bike up like normal and the HID is bright, but 5 mins into riding, its about 1/2 as bright. If I flip my high beam on/off real quick, the HID will go back to being bright... Till another 5 or so mins go by, then its dim again. I checked all the wiring/connections and it looks fine. Is it my bulb?

*ive had this HID for prob 4-5 years now. Got it right when they were available for motorcycles, I wanna say thru a site sponcer *something king.

Anyone know what it could be?

ballast may be going out.

so ill safely assume it would be cheaper to just get a new HID system then replace the ballast....
