Hello all! New to the board! Mod questions

Hey all! I'm on my 2nd busa. First was a stock 99 model. Now I have an 02 that I added a 43t rear sprocket, full stainless muzzy, and did the airbox mod. I'll probably do the PAIR mod after the hurricane pulls through

I've been searching & reading on this site and have a few questions:

Is it worth it buying the K&N air filter?

Is it worth it going to all short stacks?

After hollowing the airbox, throttle response increased and it was easier to ride in traffic. Then, when I added the 43t rear sprocket, it was even easier to ride in traffic, plenty of torque.

If I combine the two, will it be a noticeable difference? Eventually I'll get the PC, but my money's not right for that right now.

Since I'm new, here's a little about myself:

I race a 1969 Cougar in a circuit called The Clash of the Titans. I won the 14 second class 3 yrs ago (1 loss due to e-coli & hospitalization), 13 second class 2 yrs ago (1 loss due to water on the track, car+wall=loss), tried the 12 second class last year, but no luck at all. I'm currently the points leader in the 12 second class this year, by 100 points, with 1 race to go. There's nothing else really to mention, HA!

Welcome aboard, K & N air filter is what I'm running on the Busa at the moment, not to bad. There's alot of the Board Members who would prefer the BMC Race air filter. As far as running shorter stacks, I'm puzzled... Again Welcome Aboard...

Welcome to the board. A friend of mine has a k&n filter which he let me try on my bike to see if it made a difference. I rode for about an hour with it on and could tell no difference at all. IMO it's not worth 60 bucks.

I just switched over to the K&N on my Busa last week. Don't really notice a difference in performance. But the OEM paper filter is $42. The K&N was $70 (I didn't shop around). Here's the difference. $42 every year for the paper filter, or $12 every year to recharge the K&N.

Unless you are racing, leave the mixed stacks. All short stacks will give you a little extra on the top end, but will take some from the bottom.

welcome ! long stacks give to the bottom end , tall give to the top end. K&N give your engine better airflow and as a racer you know that you need air . Ask Cache about weather the stacks will help with racing. I don't believe that you'd notice a diff.

I'd suggest you go the BMC way.. I have some good review regarding em. K&N really dont do much for your performance...

+1 According to Brock at BDE, the stock filter allows more air ,hence more hp than the K&N and BMC.
Short stacks usually if you have a cam upgrade it produces a couple ponies up top
