I was out doing an errand this morning and stopped by a person I know who used to be a civilian employee on the base and is a pretty cool guy...

He also has a Ram truck so we were in the garage talking trucks...

He has a 30 something son living with he and his wife who has a mid 2000's Civic that is lowered and tricked out although it has 3 or 4 colors of doors and fenders on it and is in desperate need of a paint job...

He and I were talking about how disappointed we were that Ram has done away with the 5.7 Hemi and said the company that keeps their V-8 will sell the most trucks.......and although the new "Hurricane" engine might make more power it sounds like crap and is very complicated.

The young fellow snorted and said we don't know anything about going fast or power in our "grandpa" trucks and it was high time that Ram moved into the 21st century...we laughed at that.....

My friend said to his son "going fast? do you know what bike this guy rides?" The kid said "probably an old man Harley" and his dad said "he rides a Hayabusa....show him a picture"

So I did and the kid raised his eyebrows then had a hundred questions...."how fast is it. what's the fastest you've had it, how much power does it make.? etc, etc....

I told him that I didn't know how fast I've had it but it's not restricted anymore and I've had it topped out once so it must have been over 300 kms/hr and it didn't take that long to gather in that sort of speed. He asked how I thought his Civic would stack up against it....I told him I didn't want to burst his tuner car bubble but there was no comparison between the two.

The kid had no more talk of speed and power after that although we did go out and look at his Civic that he was busy working on...he had an Acura engine in it and a bunch of shiny bits here and there....

I said it must suck in the winter and he said he is looking for a used winter beater right now and will store this at one of his buddy's places.
Yeah I had a kid in his.....wait for it.......Hyundai Tiburon........talk smack about speed. So I humored him. It was over by midway through 2nd gear.

Honestly there are people out there with no clue as to how fast a motorcycle accelerates....even big tour bikes or cruisers...

They get a big surprise when they see the tail light disappear into the distance...

Years ago when I was young and fearless one of my guys had a Camaro that he thought was fast.....at the time one of my bikes was an FZR1K that I ran him on......this guy soon learned not to mess with a motorcycle...I probably could have took him with the RD400 Daytona I had as well but figured overkill was the best way to send a clear message.......I also had my twin GSXRs at that time too....so he was going to get trounced one way or another....

We had a couple inches of snow yesterday and it was surprising (not really) at how many people didn't even bother to clear their windows before driving....and not driving slow on snow covered roads either......

I watched them drive by with a tiny windshield wiper hole on their windshield to see out of.......they would probably get into a crash and wonder why......

......jackasses.......

We got around 8-10 inches of snow last night and it was no surprise that people didn't clear off their vehicles before driving away...

One car went by and only had a small hole cleared off the windshield to see out of, the rest of the vehicle was completely covered including the lights....it was dark then and I don't know how the driver saw anything....

Then later I was clearing snow at one of the senior lady's home we take care of and watched a younger lady who was driving down the street with both hands on her phone and looking down at it instead of the road...her van wandered to the left and into the snowbank....he got frightened and I saw her drop her phone and grab the steering wheel...

Of course I laughed and gave her the thumbs up.....she fished around for her phone, picked it up and while she was in the snowbank, went back to texting.....

We had a historic snow event here last week. 9.5". And of course no removal equipment. So it was a messy few days. It started Monday. By Fri it was all gone. But it paralyzed everything. Everything was closed just to keep things safe. As a result, all perishable food shipments got stuck on impassable roads. And shelves are still empty. The ironic part is somehow people feel they better stock up toilet paper of all things. Cleaned out the stores if it.

I guess you could say, it scared they chyt out of them.

Today it's 72 and back to normal temps.

Still have empty shelves.

My brother said last week they had a snowfall of 4 feet within 36 hrs........

He said there were abandoned vehicles littering the streets as people got hopelessly stuck and left them...

The plows were pulled off the roads because visibility was zero at times.....

He said it's snowing this week as well....he sent me a picture of the snow touching the bottom of a stop sign...

I said that reminds me of the snowfalls we had when we were kids.....

Last Thursday Wife and I went out for Chinese food
there is a Regular at this bar that we kind of know
he is always bragging about his Maserati SUV and how fast it is

I overheard the conversation and couldn't help but chuckle
He saw me and asked why I thought it was funny
I explained what I ride and he proceeded to tell me from a roll he would beat me bad

Man I wish it wasn't winter with a apart motorcycle HAHAHAHA

......they just don't know...that's the sad part......

I had a guy I knew for a long time tell me just how fast his modified V-Rod was...he found out the hard way that it was no where near the level of my old, fat Hayabusa....

The other night we received some snow and I was out talking to a neighbor....we watched another neighbor using his snowblower which had a shield on it...these (hoods) shields are notorious for frosting up on the inside making it so you can't see anything...

His must have frosted up because he started blowing his front lawn............and must have realized it because he stepped out from behind the shield looking and scratching his head.....

My older brother was over helping out one of his friends with all the snow they got recently and noticed the tip of a windshield sticking out of the snow behind the carport....

He asked what that was, and his friend said it is his son's bike but somehow, sometime the cover must have come off it.

So my brother shoveled the bike out-he said it is a new Kawasaki 1000 Ninja, a green one......he found the cover and covered it up again....he said the blowing snow packed into the openings of the fairings and it was hard packed in there....

The friends' son works up north in the mines and works 21 days in and 14 days out....

Whilst out this morning running a couple errands and washing the truck, on my way home I saw a neighbor down the street outside so I stopped in to say howdy....his son was visiting and has a Toyota Corolla GR hatchback...(same as my younger son).

We were talking and shooting the $hit and I mentioned how nice the car was and his son who was also talking to us said it's really fast and how I wouldn't understand how fast until I drove something with some power....I told him my Ram is no slouch.....it doesn't have the quickness of that little car but it does pretty good for a big, heavy truck.....I also said if I want to go fast, I have a motorcycle to do that with.

He said what do you ride a Harley, my car will spank one of those easily.......I said a. doubtful and b. I don't ride a Harley, I have a Hayabusa and his dad chimed in to say and it looks like a rocket ship.....this young guy didn't know what a Hayabusa was so in good young guy fashion he looked it up on his phone and said.......ohhhh!.......yeah, you'd take me easily on that thing.....

We all laughed and I reminded him to not judge all books by their covers.....I said my son has the same car only in gray and he doesn't put my bike in the same category as his car-he knows better.......just like you now do.......

That's an interesting little car.
1600cc three cylinder motor developing 300hp and 295ft/lb torque.
Not the same thing, but compare that to a 1340cc Hayabusa four cylinder motor developing 188hp and 110ft lb of torque.

Time to put smaller motors and turbos into motorcycles.

I think that time is coming...smaller boosted motors.....

If we recall in the early to mid '80s turbo bikes were all the rage........and the same with cars....then that all went away and came back again.....

I remember seeing my first 1980's something turbo Dodge 300, to say that effort was dismal was an understatement......then I saw the turbo FireFly......

Now almost everything has a turbo motor......snowmobiles, jet skis, and almost all the cars, SUVs and pick ups.....I'm not too sure about their longevity though......

Who would have thought that we would ever be able to buy a factory supercharged motorcycle?

Technology has come a long way.....

Do you know what your son is getting in fuel consumption?

I can remember in a different life, early 70's my job, working, testing on Mercedes's 6.3 Liter V8 cars, putting out 247hp with a torque of 369 lb ft. We thought those were rockets, got a speed thrill every minute I spent with them.

Back in 1973, a 454LS4 Corvette developed 275hp, in metric that would be a 7.4 Liter V8 motor.

Now, along comes a 1600cc 3 cylinder Toyota that would kick it's a$$.

Simply amazing
