Front/Rear brake pad changing?

At how many miles should you change front/rear brake pads?

Whats a good way to check or tell if you need new brake pads????

Ed, depends on the rider, roads, ride style, who knows.

Get down on your knees with a flashlight and take a look at your pad thickness. If they are getting thin, replace them. If still not sure, takes seconds to remove the caliper and get a closer look.

Remember the rule of The last 30% goes 30% faster. Soon as metal touches metal, gotta replace those rotors.

Tim, do you have a quick measurement you go by? a penny's width remaining? Dime? Nickel? Quarter?

I am always looking at mine, but hard to tell how much remains...

If 2mm or less - it's time to replace. That's the manufacturer's recommendation as far as I remember. You can go a little lower, but that's about it. The new ones are almost 4mm.

Good info. Just replaced my fronts, looked about half gone, but had been on for a little over 2 years.
