I have a problem with my front axle not wanting to come out. It acts seized in. It is a factory wheel that has been chromed and I think the seizure may be due to that but I'm not sure. Does anyone out there have any ideas on how to get this baby loose. It was torqued at 300+ ft lbs and still didn't break loose.

Not sure about the seizure, but you only loosen one fork to remove the axle. the other fork holds the threaded side and stays tight.

If not, you need a bigger hammer.

That has been done. The forks are getting new seals and new rubber on the wheels. I used an impact on it even with no luck. The axle cracked instead at the tool sight.

The pinch bolts are loose on the left side only. The axle didn't get chromed, just the wheel. I wasn't doing the work at first so I didn't know what my bike guy meant when I posted this and then I looked. I couldn't understand why the axle got chromed in the first place. It was just thought that maybe the chrome process may have been a problem until my bike guy got into other attempts. Now we are both on it and just don't know. He said he has never had one this stubborn. All I know to do it get a really long pipe to get some length on the breaker bar and see what happens.

Possibly corroded on the threaded side?? Whenever I install the axle, I always add a little antiseize to keep the axle from corroding in place. Torque on the axle should be 72.5 ftlbs when it's installed, maybe it was installed with an impact and too tight??

I'm just throwing ideas out bro. Hope it comes apart.

That's been my thoughts too. I do plan to put some anti-seize on the threads once I get it loose and get another one in there.
