From a Hayabusa to an MT01

V.A.D.E.R is HOME!!

Picked up the bike at midnight from the dealership delivery truck. Some 50 other bikes had to wait for the big bus to be moved before they had room to come out of the truck :) Hehehe

All this was supervised by my dad and my wife. The bike was delivered in Chennai and I am still stuck in New Delhi on business.

See...I told you things happen differently around here :)

Cool - Looks like all they would have to do is put on the windscreen and gas and it would be ready to roll.

Well I bet we know what you will be doing the weekend :beerchug:

Spent most of the morning getting the bike out of the crate, installing the levers, bar-ends, mirrors and ZG double bubble windscreen, steering head nut (with the torque wrench), vortex swingarm spoos, adding electrolyte to the battery and priming the fuel pump with fresh 97 octane before giving it the thumb-start! Let it idle for a few minutes and a LOT of smoke rose up from the protective waxes and oils. This smoke thing went on for at least 20 minutes before it went away.

Went for an installation ride in C-Mode. Didn't want to take a chance with the wax on the tires and all. Got the temporary tags on the bike and I will head out tonight to have some fun.

Started to get the bike out of the crate:

Everyone pitched in...my wife, my father-in-law, my brother and some friends!

Getting there...

Once things were done there was an interminable wait for fuel...we forgot that we might need some at the end of all the assembling :)

My father-in-law threw in a 21 years Johnny Walker :)

Wow Looks good.

So is that how it normally goes, you buy it from a dealer and then you uncrate and put it together?
That's one way to make sure it's done right, however then what is the dealer for? You could order it straight from Japan and then do the same thing, right?

Oh I forgot - Red tape and the need to create useless jobs so everyone has one. :banghead:

Be safe riding that new machine and don't let all that power go to your head.:laugh::laugh:

Do you get to keep that crate that it came in?
Then if you do come back to America you could re-crate it up and send it.

Oh no I forgot again, it would probably cost $20k to send it over seas :banghead:
Better to sell it there and buy another one here, no?

I had to put it together myself because I ordered it from a dealer in a different state. The story goes like this...no new shipments until mid July 2012 and only white bikes available with the dealerships. I wanted the black...

Suzuki took a call to divert one black bike that was headed for their corporate brand office as a display piece and had it shipped to me after I booked through a dealer in the same state where the bike originated. So V.A.D.E.R (I've given it a name!) was destined for a lifetime of boredom standing on a plinth in a brand office...instead he now comes to life in my garage :)

That is why I had to do all this myself but you know what? I'd do it again...enormous fun and entertainment for the whole family :)

Yes I get to keep the crate the bike came in. I'll use it for transport to trackdays in other states. Shipping overseas only costs around $1000 - $2000 but why would I ship it to the US? I pay close to three times what the Busa costs there so I can sell it here and with that money buy two bikes in the US when I get there.

If I move back to the US that is...been there already and looking for a different scene :)

Quick update:

I've done around 5000 Kms on the Busa so far. Loving it!

Added the following accessories:
1. R&G Radiator Guard and Oil Cooler guard
2. R&G Frame sliders
3. Vortex swingarm spools
4. Red anodized Pazzo shorty levers
5. Zero Gravity Double Bubble (smoked)
6. Power Commander 5 with Autotune
7. HMF Big Bird low mount
8. Red Shifter Sock
9. R&G Tail Tidy (yet to install)
10. 3M Paint Protection Film (yet to install)

I am seeing incredible fuel efficiency when ridden sanely and insane performance when ridden hard. The HMF pipe (4-2-1) has transformed the bike with the weight saving as well as the power delivery and the NOISE!

One issue: At high speeds (220 Km/h plus) it becomes impossible to ride the bike because of the heavy vibrations on the helmet, windscreen etc. I believe this is aerodynamic turbulence behind the windscreen than anything else. Would using the rear cowl make this problem go away?

Some pictures from my side:

Looking good  . In terms of vibration , see if the windscreen is securely installed. A wrongly installed windscreen will cause a lot of turbulence. Does the vibration extend to the handlegrips also ?

Thanks Bigron - the vibration seems to be only aerodynamic related. Helmet goes up and down a lot as well as the windscreen. The helmet shake is really unnerving. I'll check if the windscreen has gone on properly but another friend with a stock windscreen has the same issue.

Been there, done that, and not at all interested in going back. You are a true dare-devil to hop on a 2-wheel in that country. The culture and their driving habits have ZERO interest in human life.

Stay Safe, have fun, and enjoy the experience!

It was about a 18-19r one way flight for me from Chicago to New Delhi if i remember correctly?

Hi Tim - you are partially correct. More accurate than not actually. There is little - no value for human life in India because there are so goddamn many of us that it gets to your psyche. Just like a rich man has little value for money...Indians don't care too much about the loss of life.

This is why we are actually the worst targets for a terrorist attack because we probably go ooh! for a few days and then go back to our business as usual...trauma forgotten. This is misinterpreted as Indians being a "hardy" people who "bounce-back"...bollocks!

Riding in India is treacherous business because of the total disregard for traffic rules and the lack of emergency response facilities if things go wrong. If you have a serious accident on the road, chances are you won't make it...

We all have to live with this...this is our reality and we have to work around it. We get out of the major towns and enjoy some of the lesser used roads in remote areas. We have some of the best scenic drives/rides in the world and some of the most challenging roads that get into the 18000+ feet above sea level. India deserves a shot...it isn't all doom and gloom so please do come down and ping me if you do.

Hey VaBusa - thanks :) Panty Busa Rider huh...you won't see many of those in India :)

glad you haveing fun with it gs....at at least i can say...i have rode with you....ps you owe me a video copy lol
