I wasn't kidding. Because the only reason I'd get sliders would be for drops going very slow or just standing still to protect the plastic... because that's why I'd want them. Laugh, but that's what I thought they were for mainly. Sure, I have seen them on racing bikes too. I'm not a racer, though. If they won't completely protect the plastic for simple drops then I won't get any. I don't read bike magazines or know too much about all the parts, so I guess now I know that they are mainly to protect the bike during severe "slides" at speed. I guess we learn something every day.

Dude you would'nt lay your bike down for a look see,that was kinda funny! I'm with you though. I'm going to have my shop do them for me. But I'm also really lucky and have an independant shop that I can trust,that does'nt charge and arm and a leg and charge you for stuff you don't need.
