Anyone got any report on these bulbs? I bought a pair on ebay and want to make sure these puppies don't melt my baby's hardware. Input needed.....input needed.

BigDawg,

First off, sorry we didn't hook up on Sunday. After my bike overheated, I was in no mood to sit in more stop-and-go traffic. We'll hook up at some point.

To your question, I've noticed a lot of companies selling Xenon bulbs. Your sig doesn't mention that you have HID, so I'm assuming you don't. Xenon does not equal HID. What companies will do is fill the bulb with Xenon, then paint the bulb blue. I read an article on this in one of the recent bike mags, and it indicated the light output is actually less than a good normal bulb.

Don't get taken. I saw Dezzy's HID setup, and the sucker is BRIGHT! I may have to do that one of these days.

Take it easy!

No problem Jug, we'll hook up. That bulb is H.I.D. I was concerned that it may burn some of the bracketing. I've heard of this happening. Thanks bro.

BigDawg is going to have the first Laser-enabled Busa. We can call it the NRE (Noob Retard Eliminator). All the Noobies will ride in front of BigDawg, and he can zap 'em.

Hey bigdawg, The XENON bulbs are actually "overwattage" bulbs that have a tinted coating on the front. They are nomally pushed up to about 100 watts. Your circuit is designed for 55 watts. FROM experience I can tell you that the heat build up and the vibration around the socket that plugs onto the back of those bulbs is way way much. My sockets melted after putting one in. I watched my wires go up into flames. What happens is first as the sockets begins to melt from the heat the light goes out and begins flicker on/off as the contacts touch and move from vibration. The heat gets worse, then small sparks. I was reaching up into the socket cause I thought it was coming off when I put the fire out. Had to replace most of the wiring harness up there.

A TRUE HID unit is two or three parts. A ballast, a socket, and a bulb and sometimes a seperate igniter. The HID is actually only 35 watts but 3 times brighter. A 6000K colored bulb is as above is only simulating a blue light. the higher the "K" value the bluer the bulb. but lesser the light. SO 10000K is so laser electric blue but dimmer than a flashlight. 4300K is the brightest, yet a hint of blue, but also the furthest throw of light. Funny thing is that the colored blue is actually filtering out the ambient portion of the light you need the most. The part that is illuminating shadows, and perifial views. Also sent you a PM ref the HID's. Just my .02 cents, you cant compare to a true HID. A digital one has more to offer than a heavier/larger analog one.

Go HID its well worth the money... And hook it up so you can switch it off and on. I've got a wiring diagram if you go with the swithed hook-up.. Actually I need to redraw it but i can get it to you if needed
