Ok first , we had a couple heavy rainy days and my 05 got soaked... got her fired up and enjoyed most of the day then stoped by my bro’s house and she won’t start... everything powers up fuel pump lights but won’t turn over..... I assume the start button is working because the lights dim... I figure it’s the start relay or main fuse which I can’t get to tonight... so I pushed it home and after dark I whent out and notice the brake light is magically on with the bars locked and key in my pocket.... so I insert the key and the light goes off?? The only thing I know is the battery has 16.5 volts which is weird any thoughts?

Over charging at 16.5 check the connector at the regulator, and see if its melted.
Other than than that, the complete charging system need to be tested

@Mcgriffjames23

at 1st - 16.5 volts over a longer time are definitely deathyfying for every! 12V - battery.
(best loading is somewhere between 13.8 and 14.5 V)
one stands the 16.5 V for only a week others for 3 or 4 months, or so - but at the end they die very early.

2nd - see my page here may help ;)

in your case i suppose the rectifier is, why ever, gone .

and if the brake light still works even key is out (and stops if ign is on)
there will be a short circuit somewhere
perhaps caused by the water inside somewhere

my 1st try would be to disconnect ALL plugs, to dry them and reconnect.

and, 4 the future - get a stable and temperature resistant cover like this 4 instance

to protect the bike against rain
a year ago i bought this one and i feel fine with it.

Thanks for the advise guys, as soon as I figure something out I will post my findings... I did however have to sort out a couple of rodent related wires before when I had her apart (#4 cylinder coil) and (horn) which I taped figured I could get away with tape because they weren’t cut just naked may have something to do with it

Turns out it’s just starter solenoid, as for the overcharge I may have had my harbor freight multimeter set wrong it was dark... but at the shop it’s starting by jumping the solenoid and charging @14.6 and there are no fuses blown... so waiting on the mailman but thanks for the insight
