When I first brought my Ninja home, I rode with nothing on. Then my dad rode it with nothing on. biggrin.gif

After that I said #### this, my hair's getting messed up. laugh.gif Started using the helmet I bought with the bike. Got hit by, something in the shoulder the next day, and went and bought gloves and a jacket. Rode like that until November when I bought my Roadcrafter, and shortly thereafter I got some steel-toed leather boots.

But in the 3 crashes I've had in 4,400 miles, my gear has not done a damn thing in each case. Always sliding on my Ass. jump9.gif
If you have crashed 3 times in 4.4K miles you must be doing something terribly wrong...

Boots, Jeans, leather jacket with armor, gloves, lid. During the hot summer months if I am just putting through town I will run with no lid and just glasses, rarely no jacket, and never in shorts because the frame tends to get too hot.

I remember one time on my R1 before I sold it I took it for a last ride in shorts and burnt my leg on the frame. So after that I never attempted the shorts thing again.

Only wear a lid if it is raining or below 40 degrees. Or if I am going to be doing any type of serious racing.
Wear gloves 100% of the time.
Glasses 100%
Never wear leathers. Unless it is cold, then I wear a leather jacket.
Will be buying riding boots.

I layed my Busa down in Oct 04, had I been wearing a lid, it would have broken my neck because of the way I landed. Ended up with a broken vertebrae and two broken ribs. Full gear wouldnt have changed the outcome for the better.
That's the biggest pile of BS i've ever read here.

"If i had a helmet on i would of broken my neck"

What crap. I guess your also one of those guys that ride in shorts too.

Well, this is my first time riding, so...

1st time I was riding after it had rained, but hadn't dried up well. Hit a sharp turn at about 15-20, and leaned over too hard. Learned to ease up during and after the rain, and not trust my junky stock tires.

2nd time, I was making a left turn, and all over the road where I was turning there was gravel. Learned to watch out for junk in the road.

3rd time was recently when it snowed. I don't think I learned anything there, except maybe that I need studded tires. biggrin.gif

I have white leather jacket and white helmet. On direct sun and traffic lights it`s hot. But it much better then t-short and shorts.

after all it`s your skin....

25 years ago I was young and careless... After 150 feet sliding down on asphalt/gravel/sans/bushes I decided never go for a ride without leather jacket/icon jeans/gloves/helmet.
I never been down anymore (knock on wood) smile.gif

Wow, most people learn these skills while taking the MSF, or at the very least reading your State's Motorcycle handbook.

Numbers 1 and 2 are covered in the class and handbook, and number three, well, that goes without saying.

i always ride in a jacket/boots/gloves/helmet when im riding around town or at speeds below 45. If i ride the gap or feel like im going out to "play" i always wear full gear.
First day i wore my full leathers i crashed at the gap (target fixation, lesson learned) and slid a good ways down the road only to bounce around in a ditch for a wile--the whole time im thinking "this doesnt hurt a bit"--if i didnt have full gear on my thoughts would have been different im sure.

Haven't taken the MSF yet. Probably would have prevented the first two...

But the 3rd one was all my doing. Still need them studded tires. laugh.gif

Always a helmet and heavy jeans. I wore shorts once and burned the crap out of myself brushing against the exhaust after I was off the bike. When it gets 80 and above I wear a T shirt. Too damn hot to wear leather.

My bike's a toy. I don't ride in traffic.

I always have a helmet on and a good jacket, boots too, sometimes going up to the local store, I will not where the pants, but when I ride I always 100% of the time have gear on, Just like the ones you would wear on the track, because the street is more deadly than the track.

Please explain that one..."helmet would have broken my neck"?
and "ended up w/ broken vertabrae and ribs" and gear wouldn't have changed anything??? What about body armor?

Are you a lobbyist or something Mr. Roethlissberger?

Sometimes I'll ride in leather jacket, jeans, and boots. Of course never without a lid.
