I have a VOB video file that I need to convert into AVI, MPEG, Quicktime, or Windows Media Video files.

Divx used to do it for free, but now they charge.

Does anyone know where I can download a free converter??

I bought a MP3 player which also play avi and mpeg-4 videos. Since this is the case it came with a converter. I never heard of "VOB" but you can send it to me and I'll use the converter to try to make it a avi file, and then send it back in that format.

I'm not sure if it'll work but its worth a try. I'll send you my email address via PM.

A VOB file is the video file from a DVD (either encypted or not).

Try Handbrake. It's open source and avail for Windows. Haven't tried it myself, but it seems to output AVI files....

And just for more info, the VOB file is about a gig  

Its a video of me at Buttonwillow made by a friend with a tankmounted camera. So it shouldn't be encrypted.

Its a video of me at Buttonwillow made by a friend with a tankmounted camera.  So it shouldn't be encrypted.

The new Sony cameras I was just looking at use regional encryption
