Depends on the fake and the Rolex. Rolex has an Oyster Quartz model that actually moves once per second.You can tell right away. The Rolex hands sweep steadily and the fakes tick-tick-tick.It'll be great. I might wait a few years to tell him it's fake![]()
Most cheap fakes move once per second using a battery operated quartz movement. All Rolex Oyster (non-quartz) made in the last 50 years are self winding mechanical movements.
Look close at the other real Rolex (non-quartz) and you will see it actually moves at 5-8 beats per second. Some of the better fakes using an ETA movement also sweep at 8bps. The real one I am wearing runs @ 5bps, but it is a 1969 vintage. I forget when they changed bps
