Bar Grip Removal

I know this has been discussed before and I feel stupid for asking, but I am having a he#$ of a time removing the screws to replace my bar grips. I have tried everything except drilling the screws out. What am I missing?

I took mine off and put on the Throttlemeister. I almost stripped the head before I found a better fitting screwdriver. Push and make good contact and all of a sudden it will break the thread lock and come out.

Thanks, Blas. I feel like I am stripping them as it is and I have gone with the largest screwdriver that I can find. I feel like taking out my drill next.

STOP!!!
You must use a "P3" phillips bit for this to come off. If you don't, it will likely strip due to the thread locker used. I had to do this when I changed out my grips and finally found the right bit. Push in hard while you turn. This is the only bit that fits properly. The threads are normal lefty-loosy righty-tighty.

I was just going to suggest that!

Available at Sears, hold the impact driver with the #3 phillips bit in the head of the screw, turn the body of the driver in the direction you want the screw to turn, wack it with a BFH!

As you can use a 1/2" drive socket on the impact driver, they also work great for removing giant spindle nuts, sprocket nuts and other stubborn fasteners.

Keep mine in my mobile tool box for when I don't have air tools handy.

Unbelievable! All the effort put into trying to get those bar grips off and all I needed was a change of hardware. The #3 Phillips screwdriver worked like a champ. Thanks to all for the info.
