I used to have a superhawk i would wheelie on occasionally.. I could never seem to ride it out though.. I can ride it out a bit better on the busa... Its hard to keep it up, i guess i need viagra for bikes....

My question is, how much damage am i doing to the bike riding wheelies?? Whats it going to do to the front end??? Also, do you guys ride em in 2nd gear or first? If you do rid ein second.. what rpm are you at when you bring it up.. I dont use the clutch..

Ok, I ain't a wheelie king or nuthin' but if that's as high as yer gettin' it, the reason it's so hard to ride it out or keep it up is because you're nowhere near the balance point.

No, i was higher... i was either coming up in that pic or going down in that pic...

I think i can get the wheelies down with some practice.. I just want to know what kind of damage im doing to the bike by coming down off the wheelie...

Fork seals, bearings, etc... prolly won't last as long as without wheelies. Could also get stress cracks in the frame neck weld behind the triple/forks if you drop 'er hard and often enough.

I limit my wheelies to those little three to six inch power wheelies goin' through the gears. That's the fun kind for me. I like motivatin' under serious power, not hangin' 'er high. I like to watch the big air wheelies though. Keep them pics comin'!

Depends how hard you keep coming down on the front. If you come down nice and easy not bad. if you come down hard you will wear out your front forks sooner.

yep...what these guys said. You can expect your forks, fork seals, bearings and neck weld to take a beating, as well as your triple clamp (I think).

I'm also workin on those. Lemme see if I can post up some pics.

hey.....is that one of those new "carbon fiber t-shirts" with the Kevlar shoulder patches .

Oops , sorry , my mistake . They dont build such a thing.

They can make skin grafts thou.....luck you

An' yes, I will laugh an' mock you when you crash.

hav a skin-free 1........RSD.

I'll see if I could get you an article from the ole archives. Basically, all that was said above and great stress to your rear wheel bearings sprokets, chain, trans, and most importantly if your're high enough and goin' fast enough OIL STARVATION. I still can't resist the ocassional 12 o'clock or roll on power wheelie right outta the turns (GP style).

The best wheelie bike believe it or not is 98'-99' CBR 900RR you could learn 12 o'clocks in an afternoon and upright or not you can't hurt those motors they seem to get plenty oil standin' up. If you're into the stuntin' scene you know there's a great demand for them.

ahhhhhhhhhh, rubbah cares. ahaha... I normally always wear my jacket.l. ANYWHERE i go.. And what your gonna laugh at is, i was thinking, if i fall, i dont want to #### up my jacket. ahahaha...i was doing maybe 40-50mph if that.. not constant, but just in little bursts... if i came down i woulda been a little beat up...

I really cant explain why i didnt wear my jacket.. Im still wondering that now... hmmm... Well, next time i will....

NOT THAT I CONDONE RIDING WITHOUT GEAR...

but let me give you one invaluable piece of advice...

save a little throttle for your landing... once your on your way down... hit the gas HARD right before you land, and it will touch down SOFTLY.

Nice picture - thanks for sharing!  I gotta take one like that for myself soon.

Nickslick - Thanks I gotta try that tomorrow - I'm usually so glad to be heading for earth I forget to stick the landing

thats a pretty cool pic i usually try and set the front wheel down with the throttle although ive never damaged my forks i have no doubt that if you slam the front down things are going to wear out faster not to mention that i imagine eventually you will start cracking the frame at the neck as well important thing is giving your self enough room when wheelieing to power them down

Well I wasnt doing too many 12 oclocks but Ive seen my fair share. I was wheeling all the time, every chance I got. Shift thru gears etc. Never once thought I came down hard ever.

fork seals, radiator mounts, oil cooler ruptured, oil starvation, new main bearings, new oil pump, new front axel, tranny rebuilt, new rod bearings, ummm I cant think of the rest of THE FRIGGIN MOTOR I had to rebuild. Find something new everyday. ALL IT TAKES IS ONE HARDER THAN YOU THOUGHT LANDING and the rest takes care of it'self.

However, keep your oil slightly above the full line. DONT WHACK 1st. You should be able to just twist fast in first and bring it all the way up. Pop twist in second and ride it all the way up, shift into third.

Stand ups are a little easier however your arse is WAY THE FUGG up there when you look down the first time.

*another conclusion on why i didnt wear my jacket* It really started to bug me, why wasnt i wearing my jacket... I came to the conclusion that i feel alot more bullet porof in that jacket and i think i would of done even stupider poop if i felt safer... thats my story and im stickin to it...

As for the wheelIEs.. When you say pop and twist in second you mean pop the clutch??? I could never get that down.. i felt like i would fly off the back if i popped the clutch... Cant i just power it up in 2nd??

NOT A BIG WHEELIE MONSTER HERE BUT WAS OUT RIDING THE OTHER NIGHT AND DID A COUPLE OF WHEELIES FELT GOOD ON THE BUSA. FIRST GEAR WHEELIES ONLY THOUGH...

Ive never needed a clutch. in 2nd you have to get the rpm's up a little higher than in first, whilist rolling on the throttle let off and roll back on quickly. If you time it with the depression of the front forks it will hoist right on up kinda in slow motion but fast as hell. Real smooth too.

Ref the ride gear. I watched to many people go down in front of me not to wear some sort of protection.

TROJAN MAN...................
