Observations:

VERY light
Cost takes into consideration the nifty neato electronic suspension adjustment. Push a button and preload and rebound is set for you: Sport, Highway, touring, carrying a pillion.
The motor revs like there is no tomorrow and the stock pipe sounds absolutely amazing
Heated grips
Next generation ABS

Will it 'beat' a 'Busa? Who knows and who cares. It is truly an exotic and all you need to do is go sit on one. They are MUCH more attractive in person than in pictures. To ride that bike to its top speed potential you would need to be on the oval track at Daytona, but you could slap the hell outta that thing at Jennings (if you were the type to take a nearly $20k bike to the track).

Ultimately, all the best any bike can do is exploit the skills of the rider to their maximum. Hardly ANYONE thinks they are reaching the maximum of what their current bike is capable of, be it top speed, corner exit speed, or switchbacks.

BMW's are very friendly bikes and they will exploit your skillset far before you reach the top end of what they are capable of and they are more durable than most marriages.

Very well said.. All the anti BMW people on this site are just biaist or have never been around the German machine much..Broke down on the road? Don't happen.. Go to the local dealer and look at the used beemers sittin around that are for sale, You'll find more than likly they all have well over 60k on them, Why because they work..My dad has been a loyal BMW rider since '74 and Never has had any real problems.. Don't Bad mouth somthing you don't know sh#t about..BMW is just trying to get alittle more into the younger crowd mabie..Whats wrong with that..Will it beat a Busa? I'm with Scott WHO cares?. RSD I'm with you most of the time, BUT this time I think your totaly WRONG..You will see BMW in moto gp in the up coming years wait and see..My .02.. BTW I'll take mine in Blu/Wht..

I am not too crazy for BMW's bikes at all. All I know is that if I ever get a wrong look from someone on that clown of a bike, I will smoke their ass that quick, leaving them WISHING they bought the big dog from the start...
Tampa FL my brother . . . I am always here and I am told I am FULL of funny looks

Here is an idea, just an idea though. Enjoy what YOU ride, be proud of what you ride and give other people the same freedom to do the same thing.

As long as they are on two wheels, pretty much everybody is my friend. Harley, Vespa, Enfield, BMW, 'Busa, Zook, KWAK, japcrap, eurotrash and pushrod vtwin P.O.S. I don't really care. I don't need to smoke anybody (though I can and will) and I don't care if someone smokes me (and plenty can and have).

I ride what I ride and I do what I do and I don't really give a sh#t if anyone likes it or not. Life isn't a popularity contest, I do what I do because it makes me happy, and as politely as I can say this, "my happiness is what matters most to me."

If someone decides that a bike is the right one for them, who am I to judge?

Just ride D@MN you. Save that primping, posturing and posing B^LLSH@T for the ladies. Shred the F*CKING Tires down the the edge and burn that b*tch to a crisp . . and everything else can go hang.

need these questions answered...

If shaft drive is so gr8,why is it not in use on the track?

Oh, it is, but frictional losses exceed that of a chain and it's more difficult and expensive to alter ratios. Is this supposed to be a drawback to a road bike??

All them technical goodies, will they stand up to the test down the road...way way down the road, like a Goldwing.
 Nope. Not even close.

What 'technical goodies' on the new K1200S have such astronomical failure rates?

In the real world...you'll need special tools to fix 'em , you cant even use a normal swingarm stand, the parts are outragelessly priced, just like the bikes...
a) Yes, BMWs require special tools. Bummer eh...
b) What constitutes a 'normal' swingarm stand? There will be a swingarm stand for the K12S shortly, if not already, which will be 'normal' for it.
c) Yes, BMW parts are generally more expensive. Bummer eh...
d) Retrofit the exotic and upscale parts found on the K12S onto a Busa and see how much you spend...

...break downs on the road can cause grief...
This transcends brands. Irrespective the brand, on-road failures cause grief. Luckily for the Beemer owner, he has great coverage...

...how many BMW Motorcycle dealerships did you drive by today?
Two.

There is however 1 GREAT BIG GIANT bonus...when buying from a BMW dealer.

Every dealership includes the LARGE jar of Vasoline with each sale.
But typically BMW owners aren't into sheep so these get handed down to hardley riders.

Steve
Hi Steve, welcome back, we got you and RSD back just in time, things were starting to get boring around here.

Scott, you will have to admit that something in that picture just doesn't belong.

Let's sing it

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?
Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?
If you guessed this one is not like the others,
Then you're absolutely...right!

"Belonging" has never been a big priority of mine
tounge.gif

I figure I belong in the group that is hauling @ss, it is no coincidence that group is most often comprised of 'Busas.

Then again, I have had some amazingly fast rides with GSXr1000, and even a really good set of twists with a guy on a SV650s (he was awesome up to about 130 at which point I did have to leave him behind).

I hang out with you cats because we are close to the same weight class and generally you are near my age and demographic. I don't really have 'busa envy' but I do respect bike and generally the riders too

OK, I just found this.

Removed link to article on K1200S vs. Hayabusa vs. ZX-12 MCN did a comparison. The test is on the 'net in PDF format.

Does Suzuki make the Hayabusa slower every year or is that just my imagination?

Scott, I like the new avatar.
Thought you'd get a laugh outta that.

See the problem is the longer I am around the harder it becomes to keep my online personality from matching my true nature.

I am kinda the exact opposite of many, in that, well I am a pretty nice and decent guy online - while in person . . . .

YOWZA - really like sticking your pr*ck right in the middle of the hornet's nest eh?

I think that you probably are about to open the floodgates with that one, so I am going to say the following

"Guys, I love the Busa, great bike, look forward to riding with you as soon as I get the tires replaced (again) and . . uh . . I am OUTTA this thread!"

tspoole I was wondering what that bike was. You are too far for me to back up my claim, even if I was closer, Im sure you'd rip me a new one since I probably can't ride for crap currently. I actually respect any bike, exept for cruisers/harley's sorry lol. But I do apologize for my outburst, but I never do that and it felt good too! But I am one who finds something I like, and defend it with my life LOL thats me sorry, I just take pride in the things that I enjoy and think its the best. I like that quality about me. No hard feelings were meant by my posting :-)

I dont mind any bike out there, the more people I ride with the better. Personally I dont love the BMW and I really dont hate it either. I am sure the features on it will appeal to some of the folks out there. I for one just don't have any use for heated grips and all that other stuff. My best advice would be to wait a while before buying see how everything is working out on it. I know if there is something wrong they will fix it but, there is nothing worse than having a bike and not being able to ride it. There are a lot of people on this board that don't now or have ever rode a busa, but i still respect them. When you come on to a haybusa board and start talking up another bike and down on a busa, you should expect some negitive feedback. The best thing to do would be to let this thread die out. If it keeps going this way, a fight will start and a mod WILL end it. This can be a very friendly board if you go about the right way. So, with all that said, Greg welcome to the board. Hang around for a while and you might learn something, and who knows you could probably teach us a new trick or two. Oh yeah, their is one big rule on here, the more pics you post the better.

I'll never get why some fugs go to sites full of proud folks who talk about, help one another, display their rides,an' chat about a particular brand of bike when they obviously dont care for that bike.

What gives . I've never been to a BMW site. What for, to tell them how gr8 the Busa is.

Never been to a Harley site, a Yammi, Honda or Kowi site.

I find it rude that peeple come in here spewing about how gr8 some new german piece of crap is, how it will dust a busa, hold its value better...blah blah blah.

ok, yer new Duetchland Land piece of krap is the greatest thing on earth.

thats awesome. why not go advertise it somewhere else.

it costs more
doesn't look as good
costs more for parts
costs more for maintenace
costs more for insurance
costs more for accessories
the clothes cost more
the t-shirts cost more
in most parts of the world the dealers are few an' far between
they require special tools
they need brand specific mechanics for most shid
this thing of yers looks like a turd
doesn't have the HP
blah bla blah... who cares...right.

I've been bikin' for years, had very few hassles with any riders...

bin to gatherings of Hell's Angles, been to sport bike functions, Harley Rider Days, Honda test rides, Yammi test rides, HOG functions, Biker Rodeo's...

the most obnoxious , the most know-it-all, the bastids with the biggest ego's...
the pricks that think their a cut above everyone else.

BMW owners. When ya talk to them, they think everybody is stupid for not riding one.

haven't met a Beemer rider yet... who wasn't an arrogant #####.

anyway.... enjoy your BMW... here on HAYABUSA.ORG

Yes, I was very impressed with the article. Even with the low rpm fueling glitches they picked the K12S above the Busa or my beloved ZX-12r...

Interesting they report that as the roads got worse the advantages of the K12S became more apparent - the S just flat disappears.

Plus, they're quite comfortable really. I was expecting a riding position more sport oriented than I encountered -- could envision easily pouring out 10hr days on one, with the electronically adjustable suspension set for comfort, of course...

Oh, and by the way, some of you may have seen a video of a rider on a K12S flying low at Nurburgring (7:57) - it was really making the internet rounds not long ago. I watched it over and over again until I could see it in my dreams. By my understanding, Greg Gorman IS the rider, so I'm pretty confident that he knows the capabilities of the K1200S.
