Hello all,

I just purchased a busa that has a tank pad, that i dont like. I originally thought about covering it with a tank bra, but now i'm also throwing around the idea of removing it and replacing it. It's been on the bike since 02.

my question is how to remove it? and will my paint be missing in that spot if i do?

any suggestions or comments appreciated

Doubt anything will stick to factory paint well enough to peel it off. If its been repainted its a crap shoot.

Get a blow dryer or a heat gun and something depending thickness of the pad. Like a putty spreader. Plastic at wal mart in auto paints etc section a pack cost about 10bucks or a credit card. And get under a large corner. Peel slowly. Use a goo gone or alcohol or something similard to remove glue.

+ 1 to tips above by mattstang. Hair dryer to soften the adhesive, then dental floss to "slice/cut" the backside.

The Heat Gun or Hair Dryer will aid to remove the decal itself. The adhesive can be a problem. Start light (mineral spirits, gas, kerosene, WD40, alcohol) and move up (if needed (lacquer thinner, acetone, Goo Gone). Really give effort in the light stuff before moving on. The harsher stuff can and will cause paint damage!

Be very careful with a heat gun or blow dryer ... too much heat may damage the paint.

sounds like covering it with the leather bra might be the easiest and safest way.

not necessarily the case. my previous one trapped water toward the top of the tank bra leaving a perfect line across the tank from washes and rain . if you remove it every time you wash and dry it well after riding in the rain, then your good to go.
