Hi Guys
I own an 01 Hayabusa and have been told that if it has a Speedo showing 220mph it is unrestricted is this true or false as I have been told and read it is is only 99’01 models that were not restricted to 186mph.

Yes, but only 99 and 2000 models.
01 and newer are held to 186mph/300kmph electronically.
But the bike is only capable of 194mph at best, regardless what the speedometer says.
It is limited by the sprockets.
But if you go to taller gearing, for more top speed, you'll need more hp to continue to go faster.

Actually, the European speed decree was not in place until the middle of 2001. So any Hayabusas showing a manufacturing date up to 6/01 are unrestricted . . .

Just because the speedo is a 220 mph speedo doesn't change the top speed of the bike. It could have been swapped out. For example, all CBXs except for the 1979s have the mandated 85 mph speedos. Many owners swapped them out but it didn't make the bikes go faster.

It doesn't matter when it was registered, that happens when it is sold. So the day the dealer gets it...or 2 years later as a new leftover.
You'll have to check the vin# for the actual build date.

There is a manufacturing date on the vin tag . . . that is what you need to check.

Whats the last 6 on your serial nbr? I have an early 2001 and can tell you if its before mine or after. If your frame still has the sticker on the side it will tell you when it was produced. I don't know of any 2001 that had the 220 speedo. I have had 99, 00, and 01, the 99 and 00 have 220 but not my early 01

My '01 has a 185MPH speedo.

My registration document shows it was 1st registered 26-03-2001, the last 6 no: of the chassis are 102839, engine no: W701-114201, I have owned the bike close on 11yrs now.

Hi again fella
Just looked through the warranty book, never looked before, there is a page called production identification and it is a 2000 model, owned nearly 11 yrs and did not realise it was the unrestricted model.

also says GSX1300RY if it were a 2001 it would be a GSX1300RK1 the 99 was a GSX1300RX What does your title say??
