Police: Man Sent Child Porn Over Internet

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- An 18-year-old Beech Grove man faces charges in Texas and Indiana that he sent child pornography over the Internet.
Police told RTV6 he thought he was talking to a young girl in an online chat room. But that "young girl" was really an undercover detective.

Authorities said the investigation of Jonathan French started in Texas in March 2004 when an undercover investigator acting as a young girl in an AOL chat room allegedly received explicit pictures from French depicting naked children with naked adults.
"There were five pictures -- four young naked girls, clearly under the age of 15 -- and one of a 3- to 4-year-old girl, naked also," Greenwood police Chief Joe Pitcher said.
Police traced the AOL account to an apartment in Greenwood, where French lived with his mother.
"He somewhat confessed that he probably did send those pictures to a person that he did not know that was an Irving police officer," Pitcher said.
Authorities don't believe French was in any of the pictures, but they still don't know where they came from.
French faces charges of child exploitation and possession of child pornography. RTV6 was told police in California are investigating French for the same crimes.
