Heartbreaker for Hickman, heard his QS quit during the race and he still just missed out on the outright lap record en route to 2nd place. Dunlop racks up his 23rd TT win amazing!

First fatality this year happened last night. During the feed they were busy celebrating with Hickman and Dunlop as they finished way ahead of everyone. As they were talking to them you could hear bikes zipping in and finishing.
Raul never made it. Died on last lap. He had just set his personal best on the previous lap.

If it was any other competitor in any other sport I’d be saying Mickey D needs 2 more wins to take the title.

However, Im not feeling that right now.

Just 1 more win would see him sit side by side with his uncle Joey which is bloody amazing. Anything else is a bonus but Joey is the benchmark as far as the TT is concerned.

Much as I like MotoGP, WSB etc, the guys who race the IOM, NW200, Macau etc are my “Premier Class”.

One of the best quotes I ever heard about the top guys in road racing was a commentator who said… “We love them, because they are just blokes like us… but really… they aren’t”.

I know the IOM is a pretty unique and specialised circuit but it’s still interesting that there’s only 5 mph difference between the 600’s and the full on 1000 superbikes.

The liter bikes almost have too much power for the IOM.......the 600s can stay in their power band longer.

Put the same bikes on a SBK circuit and there's a huge difference in lap times.

Absolutely. The circuit isn’t one where the bigger bikes can stroll away. Even the sections that suit 1K’s don’t give them a massive advantage in lap times like elsewhere.

Very much this ^ . In comparison to “learning” a traditional GP or WSB track the IOM is totally different. Being a great rider is very different from local knowledge. Similarly the guy who held the bike record for the Nurburgring lived on site and was a tutor, similar to Sabine Schmitz.

Kiwi Bruce Anstey Did really well at the TT, I’m not sure how much track time he had prior, it’s not unusual for AU / NZ sportsmen to move to UK / EU to further their careers.

I know I was faster on certain tracks due to my familiarity with them and the ability to dial in the bike better..

I have watched videos somewhere (I'll see if I can find them again) where IOM top riders rode on SBK tracks and weren't as fast as they were in IOM......and top SBK riders weren't as fast on the IOM circuit...I suppose it's all what you are used to..

I know I'd be very hesitant riding the IOM circuit in any competitive level...

Yeah, real Road Racing and events like to TT are just very different too.

Guys like Micheal Dunlops aren’t short, light and young like MotoGP riders. Being a heavy set, 5’11” 40 year old would rule out a MotoGP rider but not get a second look at the TT or NW200. I have a friend who raced 500GP’s and won a couple, he’s short and light and was young in his day, still common in GP’s today.

Rossi said in an interview that the TT riders are crazy, they accept the ridiculous risks and accept that one mistake can easily end it all, stuff that in Superbikes and MotoGP isn’t acceptable.

There’s a lot of differences between circuit racing and road racing, but what go’s on in a riders head and how he views the risk seems to be a huge one. Being a great rider is necessary in road racing, WSB or GP’s, but with the TT you need great track knowledge and willingness to accept much higher risks.
