anyone ever rode the autobahn?

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Never on a bike, but have often done the trip from Munich to Regensburg in a rented BMW, doing 150mph and seeing the Porche's gliding past.

They measure by computor traffic density, visibility and precipitation and if all is good, no speed restriction, if not the restriction is displayed electronically. The driving is awesome, left or fast lane is used for overtaking only, very strict and people think at 150 mph.

driven it a bunch but never on the bike. as jellyrug said, the speed restrictions come and go and people know how to drive there :thumbsup: If you are in the left lane, you sure as hell better be passing someone :beerchug:

Not on the Busa, but have on my 1200 Sportster, and on a KLR650, neither of which felt very stable at speeds over 85ish. Wish I had the Busa then...

Its great but it also has speed limits in some sections!

Pine???

Correct :thumbsup:, plus it's got LOTS of traffic in some locations. I think, LONG Miles of high speed runs are in the Pass because of the traffic. Well, if you have any brains at all, but then if you don't care if you crash or not, then that's another question :laugh:

Been on the Autobahn many times !!....those Germans sure know how to drive !! A great feeling to be able to "put your foot into it"and not worry !The roads are fantastic !!....BUT..be SURE to stay out of the left lane !!!.....its only for passing....or if you are doing 100mph+ !!.....be REALLY careful about this !!....or you will have a speeding Porsche up your butt !!....brush up on your German....the further south you go....the less likely you will hear English !!.....and watch the cops !!....these guys have NO sense of humour !!...and WHEN there is an accident on the Autobahn.....its usually a BAD one !!

Had my Busa in the Fatherland over the summer, not as good as it sounds guys. I believe all new German cars are restricted to 155mph (250 clicks). You can play with the new cars, and it is good fun to a point, it’s nice to have a BMW flat out and then leave him for dead. But and this is scary, Grandma Flosshilde can still pull out in front of you with a speed difference of 70 mph, happen to me a few times, change of underwear was in order ???

Yep, I had European spec 01 model when I was over there. Road on the Autobahn all the time. The fastest I'd ever been was 175 mph over there. I had plenty of throttle left, but backed out due to the cross winds. It was nothin to run 100-125mph most of the time. But even in the unrestricted areas, the recommended speed is still 130kmh (about 82mph). And for those that don't know, it's not some magnificent or magical highway, it's a regular highway just like over here, just better quality, better banking, but doesn't all the friggin exit/entrance ramps every 1/2 mile or so like over here. Like others have said, it's the quality of the drivers that make the difference!

I did1 65mph + for quite a few miles a between Strasbourg & Basel few years ago, in my BMW ALPINA B10 3.2. (6 cylinder, manual gearbox) It was rock steady, my wife was asleep the whole time, radio on, best car I ever had.

Alright spell it out for this idiot, what the heck is granma flosshilde ?

I expect it is a Generic term for little old lady who pulls slowly out accelerating slowly to about 50mph, whilst being completely oblivious to the Porches, Mercs, Audis & BMW's doing emergency stops & powerslides all around her. She thinks she is a good driver, because she does not have accidents. She causes a few, though!

I broke in my then new '04 Busa in May 04 on the Autobahn from Bremen/Bremerhaven to all the way to Sarajevo, Bosnia via Amsterdam and Munich. The stretch from Holland to Munich was entertaining as it involved being paced by an admirer driving a Merc SL600 for a few miles. Later, the Polizei pulled alongside to check out the bike and waved at me to give it some gas and let'r rip.
To be honest it not all its cracked up to be especially when everyone else is crusing at over 130MPH... You have to really stay on the throttle to keep people driving Saabs from passing you much less the occasional Porsche Turbo.. Hell, even a new TDI BMW 530d was running flat out causing me to think it necessary to hold the throttle open further than I should have. With the notoriously poor headlamp on the Busa many drivers up ahead didn't see me coming up quickly necessitating hard braking a few times.
