At what PSI of boost do you need to add a BOV? When is it a good idea or recommended to do so? What brands are recommended?

Thanks.

Cool. thanks. Question, How do you set the psi your running on a turbo?
I mean, I'm a diesel guy and all I know about turbo's are waste gates. I here all the time about boost being able to be set on some type sof vehicles but never investigated it. thanks

By putting a spring of different strengths and sizes into the wastegate.

I am planning on running between 10-14 pounds of boost. So I guess I should plan on getting one.

Yep, I would personally run one no matter what psi, but guess it's just personal preference.

it keeps back pressure off the turbo, this lets your turbo continue to spool wich also reduces lag when you get back on the gas.

plus it sounds hella cool

can find plenty on ebay for around $40
most of these make a sorta woosh sound
the hks ssq type make more of the loud chirp

if you are building that much boost I'd prob stay away from the cheap ones

You can also regulate (increase) boost with manifold pressure in addition to the spring pressure. I used to have a cheapy blow off. It made a huge sound. My new one is a fancy pants model and it's very quite.

Im new to turbos but I dont understand the need for a BOV on a drag bike. As I understand it, they release boost pressure when you roll off the throttle. Drag bikes shift very fast and @ at WOT so stalling the turbo isnt gonna happen.

On my last turbo bike, I didn't use a BOV. It was dragraced only and up to 27 LBS boost.

True, if your biks only function is to run down the quarter then ya don't need it. If you plan on also ridding it on the street at any point then the 100.00 bucks or so is worth it.
